Modern Parenting

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, or so the saying goes. If that's so, how do two interplanetary people co-parent children? Surely, their approaches to things like play and discipline will be different, informed not so much by the rules of the galaxy but the laws of biology and social conditioning.
"To previous generations of parents this would be perfectly fine."
I know you mean well. But today, I need to tell you something. You forgot how long the days really are.
Like most parenting moves, the high of being the cool, with-it, socially-connected dad lasted about all of no seconds. Or the time it took my daughter to say, "Oh God, why did you join Tumblr? Didn't you know it's just for 12-year-old girls to complain about their thigh gap?" In my head, I heard all the records everywhere scratch at once.
All that time I said I wasn't indoctrinating anyone with my beliefs about gay and lesbian and bi and trans and queer people? That was a lie. All 25 years of my career as an LGBTQ activist, I have been on a consistent campaign of trying to change people's minds about us. I want to make them like us.
As I ponder what this new year and future years will bring with this new tiny person in my life, here is a letter to my son who right now can't even say "Mama," but who I hope will have a lot to say and do in this world.
I have used every bit of scientific methodology and cutting-edge research available to mankind (or simply looked in the mirror while also observing many of you) to put this list together.
