STATE SPONSORS OF TERRORISM
Everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it ... and, sadly, the same might be said about state-sponsored terrorism. Far from making light of problem, I am looking for solutions that might actually trigger positive change, which is especially urgent for me because I currently work in Afghanistan.
North Korea has been off the terror list since 2008, when the DPRK agreed to disclose information about its nuclear weapons inventory. However, the decision to remove North Korea was more reflective of the obsolete nature of Washington's terrorism blacklist than a genuine improvement in North Korea's conduct.
Last Friday, The Financial Action Task Force congratulated Cuba -- along with Argentina, Ethiopia, Tajikistan and Turkey -- for taking such strong actions to police its financial system that it will no longer be subject to the monitoring of its efforts against money-laundering and terrorist finance.
