Texas State Capitol
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other state leaders agreed to remove the plaque Friday after years of resistance by top Republicans.
The "Children of the Confederacy Creed" marker falsely claims that slavery was not an "underlying" cause of the Civil War.
They are all active white supremacists; two of them are violent felons.
But convincing the Republican-led state legislature to go along is proving difficult.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
They vow to stay unless Gov. Greg Abbott agrees to veto a measure punishing "sanctuary" cities.
"Please abandon these efforts to make immigrants ever more disposable,” Norma Herrera told Texas lawmakers.
The state is becoming a major battleground over Trump’s deportation policy.
