As Senior Vice President of Diversity and Strategic Alliances for Major League Baseball, my aim is to implement initiatives designed to infuse greater overall diversity throughout baseball, a model that is integral for the health and future of our sport. These initiatives are about maximizing opportunity for businesses and individuals from all backgrounds, and ensuring that Baseball is accessible to everyone. Major League Baseball is more than just the game being played on the field; it is a multifaceted industry that requires a range of skills and assets from a variety of occupations and organizations.

The 2013 MLB Diversity Business Summit is designed to promote workforce and supplier diversity throughout Major League Baseball and exposes professionals and entrepreneurs to the many business opportunities that can be found league-wide. The second annual summit, which will be co- hosted by MLB and the Houston Astros on June 18th and 19th, is our way of giving individuals interested in our industry the opportunity to connect with executives from all 30 MLB Clubs, Minor League Cubs MLB Network, MLB Advanced Media and MLB's central office.

The MLB Diversity Business Summit is an event that represents opportunity. It's an opportunity for job seekers to find out how they can work with MLB or one of its affiliate organizations; an opportunity for diverse suppliers to connect and do business; and an opportunity for college students, graduates and alumni to learn how they can break into the business.

As a way of maximizing opportunities for young people, we have endeavored to bring interested college students and graduates to the MLB Diversity Business Summit. This year, MLB, through an exclusive partnership with the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), offers scholarships to NSHSS college and post-collegiate members to attend the MLB Diversity Business Summit. The scholarship will provide 30 promising NSHSS scholars the opportunity to attend this year's Summit at no cost, and will also provide them with opportunities to meet with MLB Club human resource representatives for an exploratory interview. NSHSS is an international honor society recognizing outstanding academic excellence of diverse high school and college scholars who desire to make a positive impact on the global community.
