The Technology Pioneers programme is the World Economic Forum's way of identifying startups from around the world that are involved in the design and development of new technologies that are improving the state of the world.
The 2011 Technology Pioneers are active in areas such as cloud computing and open source application management, social networking, genome sequencing, responsive implants and wireless patient management solutions, waste remediation, fuel cell technology and the production of energy efficient building materials.
Each year, hundreds of innovative companies from around the world are nominated, and approximately 30 are recognized as Technology Pioneers in three categories:
- Energy and Environment
- Information Technologies and New Media
- Life Sciences and Health
