Dems To Keep Pressure On GOP During Recess... "If They Think By Adjourning We Are Going To Leave, They're Wrong"...

Senate Democrats hope to keep the pressure on the White House and Congressional Republicans after leaving for an extended Thanksgiving recess that will deprive them of their usual inside-the-Beltway pulpit for critiques of President Bush.

Minority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) is asking his Democratic Caucus to launch a wide-ranging series of message events in their states, continuing to key off their attacks of Bush and Republicans on charges of government corruption and failure to address soaring fuel costs.

While the Minority Leader's office frequently draws up talking points for Democrats on the eve of a pending recess, leadership has taken the position that the upcoming break is critically important to keeping the pressure on Bush as he battles a string of bad news.

Reid said Monday that it doesn't matter where the Democrats level their criticisms, as long as they keep hitting at Republicans.

"Recess makes no difference,"Reid said. "If they think by adjourning we are going to leave, they're wrong."
