A court in The Hague has ruled that the killing of thousands of Kurds by Saddam Hussein's regime in 1988 was genocide.The decision came during the trial of Dutch chemicals trader who was convicted of illegally selling Iraq the materials for the chemicals used in the attack.Around 5,000 Kurds were killed in the poisonous gas attack on the town of Halabja.
"These attacks were committed with the intent to destroy the Kurdish population of Iraq," the ruling said.
