219 members of the US military, at least 98 of them on active duty and others on active reserve, are calling for the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

The military members released a statement through the website appealforredress.org:

"As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq. Staying in Iraq will not work and is not worth the price. It is time for U.S. troops to come home."

Although members of the military take an oath to follow orders, a lawyer for the group says this Appeal For Redress is legal and can, at least in theory, be used by military members without fear of recourse. More military members are expected to follow the 219 service members who have already submitted.
