Hawaii is VERY particular about plant removal. Especially after the palm trees were cut down around King Kamehameha's statue. NO ONE bothered to ask about why the palms were being cut down.

So it's total bullshit for Midler to claim she had no idea. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together would have known to check before clear cutting.

And spare me the bullshit about nonnative plants. A lot of plants can co-exist with no problems and I saw no evidence of non native plants doing any damage.

She's a self centered bitch for doing this and a 6500 dollar fine is chicken feed to her. I would be willing to bet she knew about it in advance, figured the fine was no problem, and then had it landscaped to her specs.

She had 230 trees cut down? She is a jerk.

I spent a dozen years in the landscape business and the wrong type of tree in the wrong place is a pest. It is also very easy to replace trees. And yes, it was most likely the contractors fault.

Somehow I doubt that Bette Midler cut much of anything herself. That's what contractors are for.
