MSNBC:

In one of history's more absurd acts of totalitarianism, China has banned Buddhist monks in Tibet from reincarnating without government permission. According to a statement issued by the State Administration for Religious Affairs, the law, which goes into effect next month and strictly stipulates the procedures by which one is to reincarnate, is "an important move to institutionalize management of reincarnation." But beyond the irony lies China's true motive: to cut off the influence of the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual and political leader, and to quell the region's Buddhist religious establishment more than 50 years after China invaded the small Himalayan country. By barring any Buddhist monk living outside China from seeking reincarnation, the law effectively gives Chinese authorities the power to choose the next Dalai Lama, whose soul, by tradition, is reborn as a new human to continue the work of relieving suffering.

At 72, the Dalai Lama, who has lived in India since 1959, is beginning to plan his succession, saying that he refuses to be reborn in Tibet so long as it's under Chinese control. Assuming he's able to master the feat of controlling his rebirth, as Dalai Lamas supposedly have for the last 600 years, the situation is shaping up in which there could be two Dalai Lamas: one picked by the Chinese government, the other by Buddhist monks. "It will be a very hot issue," says Paul Harrison, a Buddhism scholar at Stanford. "The Dalai Lama has been the prime symbol of unity and national identity in Tibet, and so it's quite likely the battle for his incarnation will be a lot more important than the others."

Yeah - but what if you don't want to reincarnate IN CHINA? Let's say you're just some dorky girl from the outskirts of HongKong and you want to reincarnate as a fabulous blonde from Minneapolis? Or if your some poor sap of a dude in the army patrolling the Mongolian border and you want to come back as a swashbuckling Argentinian cowboy?

Do you have to fill out the forms then? OR do they have a separate collection of forms to be filled out in triplicate for people who are ontologically emigrating out of the Middle Kingdom?

Hmmm. Those are some forms I'd like to see...

I hope people pay attention to just how insane ,paranoid and tyrannical Communist China is.
Bush gave China so much power over the Dollar by borrowing 2 trillion to hide the cost of the war.
Clinton at the behest of fellow Arkansas sell-out Sam Walton, creator of walMart, gave China most favored nation satus and China has not kept their part of the agreement.
If you watch the Olympics you are helping China and hurting American Freedom.
Though it is difficult try hard to buy nothing made in China. So many items can be bought used at yard sales and were probably made in America and will last many life times.
Would any American who supported Freedom have helped the Soviets the way American business, government and consumers do now?
If the current trend continues China will be able to dictate policy in the US: China will take over America without firing a shot by conquering us economically.

Here's a chilling thought: What if the new law allows their government to arrest and incarcerate (or perhaps execute?) anyone proclaiming to be the reincarnated Dalai Lama if they're born within Chinese-controlled borders?
The law initially sounds utterly ridiculous but could have a much darker motive....

The Dalai Lama has been quietly working for his people under conditions of extreme hardship and disgrace, which is a great deal more than we can say of ...

... the government that we treat as Most Favored Nation ...

... in spite of the atrocities at the Square ...

... all for the sake of Wal-Mart and trillions of dollars in foolish government debts.

I don't see a problem. If for example you decide to come back as a dog, someone should assure you have had your rabies vaccination. If on the other hand you decide to return as a U.S. President Someone needs to assure you were not from Texas.
