Senator John Warner (R-VA) appeared on "Meet The Press" Sunday to discuss his call for a beginning to US troop withdrawal from Iraq by Christmas 2007. Warner, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told host Tim Russert that his announcement was meant to "respectfully suggest" to President Bush that he "put some teeth behind [his] words."

Wow, saw this article about our draft process for the Army and Marines in the WAPO this AM. Same paper has good article on this country not being able to help 9 MILLION American kids get health care insurance. Our health care industry needs more money.

You know the routine neo-cons feel that these kids should pick themselves up and not be a burden on our country.

Same WAPO paper, same morning I see this article about this BS war. I guess in a grime way it is our countries way of providing health care to these kids, give them $20,000 in cash and send them to Iraq to fight and die in Bushs damn war.

Oh by the way not sure but think Dem's are in control now, question to them how do we pay a high school kid $20,000 and ship there young butts to Iraq to be hurt or killed but we can't cover up the cost of a baby being checked by a GD doc. Color me Pissed.............color me a new Independant.

Many Take Army's 'Quick Ship' Bonus
$20,000 Is Lure to Leave Within Days

By Josh White
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, August 27, 2007; Page A01

More than 90 percent of the Army's new recruits since late July have accepted a $20,000 "quick ship" bonus to leave for basic combat training by the end of September, putting thousands of Americans into uniform almost immediately.

Many recruits who take the bonus -- scoring in many cases the equivalent of more than a year's pay -- leave their homes within days, recruiters said. The initiative is part of an effort by Army officials to meet year-end recruiting goals after a two-month slump earlier this year. With the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, the Army hopes the extra cash motivates those interested in joining or entices those just considering enlisting.

If Warner had called for a complete pullout that would be one thing. But WHY only 5,000? Obviously because he wants to distance himself from psycho Bush. And he's just another rich white idiotic power hungry neocon that only gives a s**t about himself, his money and maintaining his power at all costs.

If anyone hit the little pantywaist he could crumple like a crinoline on a Southern Belle in August. But that's okay. His 80 something year old Daddy and Mommy would run, grab the assailant by the ear and then make him stand in the corner for an hour. (At least his Mommy would....she does, after all, wear the pants in the family).

Insurgents taking cut of U.S. funds to rebuild Iraq

Is it to much of a stretch to suspect that the Pentagon delibrately shot down one of its own Helicopters in order to murder these US troops to protect this First Sergeant?

Soldiers killed in crash were set to testify

The Associated Press
Posted : Monday Aug 27, 2007 7:39:20 EDT

HONOLULU — A Honolulu TV station reports that some of the 10 Hawaii-based soldiers killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq last week had been scheduled to testify against their former platoon sergeant.

The charges involve the alleged murder of an Iraqi detainee.

The KITV report does not name any of the soldiers or say how many were to be involved in the case against Sgt. 1st Class Trey A. Corrales of San Antonio. A preliminary hearing of the case is set for October in Hawaii.

Impact on the case would depend what other evidence Army prosecutors have. The Army says soldiers reported the incident.

Corrales and another soldier are both charged in the killing, which took place June

Critics: Army putting spin on Iraq suicides

By Robert Weller - The Associated Press
Posted : Monday Aug 27, 2007 7:23:27 EDT

DENVER — Some veterans organizations, soldiers’ relatives and psychiatrists are raising questions about an Army report that says no direction connection has been found between long troop deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and the army’s highest suicide rate since the first Gulf War.

The Army report, released Aug. 16, said love and marriage problems were the main reasons for the highest rate of suicides since 1991. Nearly a third of the 99 who committed suicide in 2006 were in Iraq or Afghanistan.

“This is yet another example of the administration hiding the true costs of this war,” said Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee.

“From our troops to their spouses to family advocates — everyone agrees that extended deployments put added strain on families,” Murray said. “To say that the strain of deployment is not a cause of (post-traumatic stress disorder) and suicide is the same kind of head-in-the-sand logic we’ve seen from this administration since the war began.”

I'll believe it when I see it. Every time a Republican Senator says anything vaguely critical of the Administration, the Media hop all over it as evidence of a "serious blow" to the President. However, in every single instance, the Republican in question ends up kow-towing to Bush - and the bastard gets every single thing he wants.

Warner has no credibility with me whatsoever. Let him put his vote where his fat mouth is, and I'll be impressed. Until then, it's nothing but hot air.

Your statement "Warner, the Republican chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee" is inaccurate.

Carl Levin is the chairman. See http://armed-services.senate.gov/members.htm

Warner will waffle. He talks a good game but when it's time to get off the bench he returns to his position of kissing Bush's ass. Big talk, no walk Warner.

The Republican Trolls in the House and Senate, are so Late they should be marked absent. Where were they when troop withdrawal was brought before them by the Dems?

The closer they get to elections, now they come up with this 'bright' idea to withdraw the troops! Warner is the worst of the crew, because he flips then flops, until they call him to the White House, and he changes his mind. 5,000 troops is not enough! Bring them all home immediately!

I don't waste my time watching Russert but it does hurt that I missed Tim asking Senator Warner to defend or distance himself from Ted Nugent.
http://rawstory.com/news/2007/In_obscenitylaced_tirade_Ted_Nugent_jokes_0824.html

As he forced Barack Obama to defend someone from the same race (although not even the same political party). Russert did ask Warner to defend his fellow White Republican? Didn't he? ;-)

Well, it's about time. A member of the GOP telling Bush to put some action behind his words.
We have listened to the Bush rhetoric for years now. We have had enough, perhaps the GOP is finally putting their feet down. No more siding with party lines when it means that innocent will die. Or, better yet, to comply with the lies of the Bush administration.

I hope that Warner isn't just positioning himself for votes. i would hope that for the sake of our great nation, he realizes that it is time to break from the lies and tricks of this corrupt administration.

Warner's first marriage was to banking heiress Catherine Mellon, the granddaughter of billionaire Andrew Mellon, with whom he has three children; they divorced in 1973. He married actress Elizabeth Taylor on December 4, 1976;

In February 1969, Warner was appointed Undersecretary of the Navy under the Nixon administration. On May 4, 1972, he succeeded John H. Chafee as Secretary of the Navy. He participated in the Law of the Sea talks, and negotiated the Incidents at Sea Executive Agreement with the Soviet Union.

Warner entered politics in the 1978 Virginia election for U.S. Senate. Known primarily as Elizabeth Taylor's husband, he finished second in the Republican primary to up-and-coming politician Richard D. Obenshain. When Obenshain died in a plane crash two months later, Warner was chosen to replace him and narrowly won the general election over Democrat Andrew P. Miller, the state's former Attorney General. .."

How many Repubs win a seat at the table by way of fatal plane crash?
