The BBC reports:

Australian Prime Minister John Howard has posted a video on YouTube appealing to people not to join violent protests during the Apec summit in Sydney.

The city is hosting the gathering of 21 world leaders amid massive security.

Some are calling it Fortress Sydney, such is the scale of the operation to protect Australia's biggest ever gathering of world leaders.

Protest-proof fences have been erected close to the Opera House and other sites where meetings are taking place.

Howard is just another dictator wannabe. He is one of those "leaders" such as Shrub, who want to impose their personal views upon everyone.

Dangerous to the maximum degree, and one can only hope the protests are loud and non violent but unruly just the same. It would be even greater if it was in the hundreds of thousands.

BUT like Shrub and his five miles of separation between he and the common folk, Howard will never ever allow protestors to be seen much less heard.

Protest zones within barbed wire blocks.

Howard already has LGBT Australians wanting his scalp. I hope the queers down under, turn the event into a three ring circus...just to p*ss him off.

This seems to reveal a wee bit of a breach between the PM and the people of Australia ... should be an interesting summit.

If Howard thinks he's going to move a climate change agenda forward one centimeter while George Bush is in the room, he's gone round the bend. Sydney is going to be a barren police state in lockdown, and for what? So George Bush can have a photo op in front of the Opera House, and then ignore global warming at the APEC meeting?

I hope the protests are massive and non-violent. Bush-toady Howard needs to see just how much he and George are despised, right before he goes down hard to Rudd and the Labor Party.

If anything happens there that can be remotely construed as a "threat" to the U.S., Bush Jr. can kick in his Executive Orders and be dictator. I wonder what Joh Howard will say then?

He's a blind supporter of the bush and the war in Iraq. His poll numbers mirror bush's.

He's just taking a page out of the recently penned American Dictator's Guide.

Mercifully, Howard is getting killed in the polls and his useless government will be given the boot in a couple of months. Howard may even lose his seat.

Howard has learned from Bush that "disruption" and "protest" can be spun into "acts of violence" that allow for all kinds of repressive nonsense.

Howard has turned downtown Sydney into a jail to impress other leaders with his "man of steel" persona. Pathetic.

I doubt the Australians plan violent demonstrations . . . their PM is just scared . . . he knows the chimp will be in town and the Aussie's were against the invasion of Iraq . . . the chimp and the big dick however seduced the government with a share of the oil profits . . . so Howard is s. .. tin in his pants
