Olbermann: "Fox News Is Worse Than Al Qaeda"

That's not the line that's going to get him in trouble, though. This one is:

Al Qaeda really hurt us, but not as much as Rupert Murdoch has hurt us, particularly in the case of Fox News. Fox News is worse than Al Qaeda -- worse for our society. It's as dangerous as the Ku Klux Klan ever was.

I question the timing. No, wait -- I mean, I celebrate the timing. His pals at Think Progress spent this weekend affecting phony piety at the right's willingness to note that Osama's leftist rhetoric is, in fact, leftist rhetoric. "Considering bin Laden's threat yesterday to 'escalate the killing and fighting against' America," intoned TP, "Brooks and his fellow conservatives' attempts at humor -- and that's a charitable reading of their words -- are especially insulting..." Okay, grandma: if it's unfair to compare killers to non-killers -- which Brooks et al. weren't doing morally, although Olbermann clearly is -- let's see you bring down that rolling pin of indignation on Olby for this one. They won't, of course, and not just because they're hypocrites who agree with him here. As Johnny Dollar has often noted at Olby Watch, Countdown relies heavily on TP and Media Matters for story ideas. They're not about to alienate a jackass who helps promote them by calling him a jackass.
