Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced Wednesday he will resign, ending a troubled year-old government that has suffered a string of damaging scandals and a humiliating electoral defeat.

Abe said he was quitting to pave the way for ruling and opposition parties to work together to approve the extension of Tokyo's naval mission in support of the U.S.-led operation in Afghanistan.

PM Abe's resignation has very little to do with Iraq
or Japan/US relations.
The LDP has been corrupt for far too many years.
His recently appointed senior Cabinet members were a bunch of crooks and folded like stacked dominos.
The Japanese people are angry, especially with
the missing pension data and related funds.
Like everyone else they are waiting for answers.

When PM Abe attempted to retract the apology to the "Comfort Women" of WWII and reclassify them as willing contractors as opposed to abused sex slaves he set off alarm bells amongst his Asian neighbors.

Hopefully the next Japanese PM will be a little more aware that even though Japan has chosen to pretend the abuses of Imperial Japan during World War II never occurred, the Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, Filipinos, and other occupied people of Imperial Japan's "Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere", as well as the incarcerated Allied Soldiers, know better through first hand experience.

It's hard to imagine Japan's leaders ever showing remorse or issuing an offical apology for what occurred in WWII, they aren't wired that way, but the next PM should try to listen less to the madness of Japan's Right Wing Nationalists, and maintain a humble silence on this sensitive issue.

It's hard to imagine America's leaders ever showing remorse or issuing an offical apology for what occurred in Vietnam and Iraq, they aren't wired that way.

But Abe is not alone. The leadership of Australia, India and Poland, other countries whose regimes have remained close to Bush are also in trouble. And, of course there's Pakistan. In a democratic country, it is very dangerous politically to allign with an imperialistic country that has been responsible for hundreds of thousands of innocent civilian deaths. Mammon worshipping moral degenerates who want to impose their standards on other countries are no in good repute. Repugnants take note, then you won't be suprised when you find that many of the "Christian Conservatives" remember the Christian part of their appellation. Phrank

That is what you get and deserve for standing too close to Bush

Thanks.I was just joking about the ducks.
In this day and age the term means to
collaborate with the invading enemy,
I think.

Vidkun Quisling was the head of the Nazi puppet government of Norway in World War II.

I first came across the term in the Ancient History text they gave us in 9th grade. Trouble was, all my dictionaries were pre-WWII, so it took a while to figure out.

It was not unexpected. He should have resigned
after the results of the Upper House elections.
His choice of has- been politicians recently was
a huge mistake and the resulting corruption
exposed in his elected parliament was the
final rock to sink his boat.
However the choice for the next PM is
limited to say the least.
More of the same for years to come from
a political party, stuck in the past.
Japanese politicians need to grow up
or nothing will change here for
another 50 years.

Why don"t US politicians resign when they are found incompetent and scandalous???

I guess the US would be without governmemt if that were the case! We have a bunch of frickin losers we have in this government -child molesters, war criminals, war profiteers, illegal sex solicitors, closeted gays who rail against gays...just keeps going and going and going
