The former head of an oil field service company admitted Thursday in court that he bribed three Alaska legislators, including the son of a U.S. senator who is the target of a federal investigation.

Former VECO Corp. CEO Bill Allen, 70, testified Thursday in the federal corruption trial of former state House Speaker Pete Kott. Allen and a former company vice president, Rick Smith, have pleaded guilty to bribing lawmakers, and await sentencing.

He kind of looks like a thinner "Q" from Star Trek: Next Generation, except with more hair.

I just returned from Alaska. I urge everyone to visit the "Ted Stevens International Airport". I was staggered by the opulence of TedĘ"s namesake airport! We paid for it all, I am guessing.

Imagine granite and marble floors, gleaming balustrades, immense two-story glass and metal art installations, stuffed musk oxen and other animals, a long passageway containing an overhead glass and LED sculpture that evokes the aurora borealis, and more.

Of course the layout of the facilities are counter-intuitive, and the employees may not seem to know how to route baggage, but still. At least some artists got to make some money.

Alaska is home to many people who came from the south and the west, so the chance of getting a Democrat for Senator up there are not good. However, the people arenĘ"t stupid, and since the scandals are now rocking every level of Alaskan government, perhaps the citizens will decide that enough is enough.

What else is new? We expect this now. Just a matter of whether the press gets around to lifting the blanket on these deals.

Stevens's son, the little rat puke piece of shit, is now hiding behind daddy's coattails. The little swine was taking mucho moola from oil interests-the little parasite. I'd like to see them both share a prison cell. The kid looks like a nothing-his whole existance handed down to him by his crotchety old Republican cocksucker of a dad. I hope the heat gets real hot and terrible for both with topns of media coverage and salaciousgoings on.

As long as the Republicans are sending as many thieves as they can find to the halls of Congress, the Democrats ought to suggest that bars be put on all the windows. Then the Dems could sneak out and lock the place down and make it into the prison the Republicans in this Congress so richly deserve.

I think the appropriate term here is "tip of the iceberg".
I can still remember Stevens back on the day after 9-11-01 calling out for investigators to not overlook the envrionmentalists when it was looking to cast its withering beams on suspected culprits...and now the wither beams are focused right where they ought to be, on Stevens' and his buddies.
I sure hope we take an enlightened perspective on this and recognize that the perpetrators of political corruption are a different kind of criminal and deserve a punnishment that fits the crime. As an opponent of modern imprisonment concepts I do hope that Stevens and his ilk aren't treated to our penal systems finest accomondations. Instead I'd prefer to see him and his collegues following an embarrassingly bare-assed caning (with doctors supervision) on the steps of the downtown federal building, continue in public service: orange jump-suites from morning to night, keeping the public toilets clean at the newly re-named Jay Hammond International Airport in Achorage...with an ankle bracelet so they can go to a modest abode they pay for themselves. Save prison for those for whom it will do some good.

Now tell me, does anyone believe that Baby Bear was getting bribes, and Daddy Bear wasn't taking bribes? Come on, people, Big Daddy had to be getting the most. That is how the pecking order works.

Though way up north, Alaska has become the new South. Like the legendary old southern pork barrel, Alaska gets a disproportinate funding for unnecessary projects. Ted Stevens notoriously threw a fit at the suggestion that money for unnecessary Alaska bridges be used to help New Orleans after Katrina. Meanwhile, Senator Frank Murkowski gets elected Governeor, then appoints his own daughter to replace him in the Senate. At the political level, Alaska is a far cry from TV's "Northern Exposure." It's more like a corrupt, arctic "Deadwood!"

Just a normal day in the life of a Bush Republican. Corruption is their profession. It's how they make a living. They're just trying to put food on the table for their children. The 2008 elections will put an end to their impunity and hold them accountable. I wonder if anyone "really" realizes how many former loyal Republicans are going to jail after Herr Bush leaves office.

I guess this explains why Sen Stevens SCREAMED BLOODY MURDER at Sen Cantwell when she insisted that the oil industry fat cats gave their testimony under oath....Stevens of course REFUSED to put the oil industry fat cats under oath and they ALL LIED through their teeth during that Senate commitee investigation!

Ted Stevens (and his son) belongs behind bars as do about 97% of the Repuklican politicians in our government...they would sell their own mother if it would make them a buck!!!
