Law Scholar Fired Over Conservative Complaints May Be Rehired

UC Irvine officials on Friday were attempting to broker a deal to once again hire liberal scholar Erwin Chemerinsky as dean of its fledging law school, just three days after its chancellor set off a national furor by dumping him.

Prominent Orange County attorney Tom Malcolm, a participant in high-level university discussions, said: "I think we are satisfied that if [UCI Chancellor Michael V. Drake and Chemerinsky] have a meeting, they can come to some understanding, and [Chemerinsky] can become a good dean."

Chemerinsky, who would have been the school's first dean, was noncommittal about whether he would still take the UCI job. "I have nothing to say about it. I haven't thought about it," he said.

The Constitution supports all of the characterististics of humane, responsible and equitable relationships that humans desire in common.

The Republican Party is devoted to immediate self-interest ONLY! It's rather clear to see in the policies, programs and politicization of our nation's resources, treasury, armed services, health care, employment policies and male-dominated professions and corporations.

Someone who actually BELIEVES in the CONSTITUTION is a threat to the Repuiblican party who hates all that the CONSTITUTION stands for in citizen rights!

We're talking about Irvine, CA. It doesn't get more conservative in California than Irvine. These people think Goldwater was a liberal, but by today's standards, he was.

Face it HuffPosters, Irwin has a voice like a pipsqueek and it plays into the hands of right-wing nutjobs like radio host Hugh Hewitt, who has Irwin on weekly. Hewitt must love it that his base gets to reinforce their beliefs in progressives as emasculated sing-songy types. I hate to say it but Irwin regularly gets beaten up by the 2 rethug baritone lawyers on Hewitt's show and I wish it weren't the case.

The Fascists denied again! Looks like America is FINALLY waking up to the Nazis trying to take over.

Chemerinsky is a brilliant man. A true intellect. No wonder the Right doesn't want him. He's actually READ the Constitution and still believes in it.

Chemerinsky is a brilliant legal scholar and a nonpartisan intellect. No wonder some Rethug wanted him out. Fire the bastard that worked about Chemerinsky.

you mean nonpartisan as a life long liberal.

Being openly liberal in Orange County is a good way to get beat up. It was a major center of the KKK during the early 20th century, with Anaheim, home of Disneyland, having many public displays of support for the Klan, like signs in shop windows stating that the shopowner was a klansman. Later, when "minorities" began expanding in LA county, Orange County became a refuge for whites seeking white-only neighborhoods and city governments. Oh yeah, and it is the birthplace of Richard Nixon.

What a wretched, shameful place OC is.

I'm O.C., living in Little Saigon and you're vastly exagerating.

But the effort to cast Irwin Chemerinsky as a flaming bomb throwing radical is bullshit.

Irwin Chemerinsky for Christ's sake! Is no one safe.

Man, you have to be doing something un-American to be afraid of his teachings.

Here's the President of the California University url on which you can object to this fascist act.

When will it truly be enough?

Mil - thanks for the url. I'll write. I hope others do as well. For those of you who don't know, Chemerinsky is a brilliant legal scholar and a good man. This is a disgraceful continuation of the reichwing response to real thought.

I'd say Chemerinsky's bargaining power just went up substantially. Drake's boneheaded move has put him in the catbird seat. Perhaps a boost in salary will help him consider the offer.

A liberal educator in Orange County?

NO WAY!

Something will happen.

Bet on it.

Drake is a tool.

He should close the deal and then resign.

Fuck the conservative value.

If this country wants to continue down the road to end up like.....well I can't even say Mexico cause they are finally joining the 21 century.

Conservatives need to keep their dirty lifestyle in their own homes. I don't want to hear about it or see it in public!

AND DEFINITELY NOT SUBSIDIZED WITH MY TAX $$$$$s
