A rally on Saturday to protest the war in Iraq, which began with a peaceful march of several thousand people to the Capitol, ended with dozens of arrests in a raucous demonstration that evoked the angry spirit of the Vietnam era protests of more than three decades ago.

The police, including some officers dressed in riot gear, tried to halt demonstrators as they sought to climb over a low wall near the Capitol after a march that had begun near the White House in a festive atmosphere.

The saddest thing is that only 189 were arrested. Should've been thousands.

"Violent protesters" often turn out to be agents provocateurs (that"s a fancy French way of saying undercover cops.) In other words, they are police, not protesters. Fortunately, there are experienced anti-war activists who understand the problem and how to deal with it. At the link below, you can find a video showing a silver-haired peace activist calmly instructing an undercover officer (wearing a bandana across his face) to "put the rock down."

I hope others will join me in making sure that the 189 arrested all get out and don't "disappear" in the next few weeks as so many other American prisoners have been. It is now illegal to speak out in America. Too many of us have been "disappeared" for protesting Bush/Cheney and their illegal regime and immoral war. How many more of us will be disappeared?

What are you talking about?

Do you know of protesters who have "disappeared"?

Maybe you should put your tin-foil hat on and go hide in the attic.

ceasenake--Why the hostility? Carefulcautious is merely being careful and cautious as all of us should be.

I must agree with Mr. Hager. Bush has changed this country, and not for the better. The America we have under this tyrant is not the America I have loved my entire life. I don't recognize America. I see homophobia, hatred, bigotry, discrimination based on sex, infiltration of religion into politics, a security system which has been laid to ruin, and an illegal war which has made us one of the most hated countries in the world. When will Congress do their job and impeach these guys?

Not until WE either bring the protest to the door step of all of msm headquarters or stop protesting in the designated protest zones will they take us serious. This will get nasty. Protest are growing at a faster rate then then they did in the late 60s and early 70s.

We had been in Nam since 59. the protest didn't really get big until 1968 and 69. There were protest in the millions the same year the troops were deployed to Irag.

This will get very nasty.

ghostsinthemachine, thank you for the links. i am quite sure that these deaths are no accident. we all need to be aware of the black operations our government conducts. i find it difficult to believe that all of these good men died in car crashes or other mysterious circumstances. i do believe however, that we the people are in some deep shit.

Once again the Anti-War Protestors are being attacked by neo-con democrats. The same neo-con democrats who attacked us when we tried to stop the Iraq war a year before it was started.

The jew democrats, as in Al From and the Clintonites cannot stop themselves from calling us "freaks","hippies", "disgraceful", etc., because "it looks bad" they (jew) say.

The Democratic Party is not any different than the Republican Party, except the Republicans are more honest. There were just as many democratic voters who supported George Bush revenge for jews Iraq war, as Republicans.

And now, since the democrats as usual, do not have a platform to run on for 2008, they are trying to hijack the Anti-War Movement and quiet it down. Because it makes their candidate the warmongering racist Hillary Clinton look like the lying, racist, warmonger she is.

I pray to God that the Republicans win, and keep winning. And the weak, spineless, jew democratic party can kiss my liberal, Anti-War behind.

Peace out!

That's somewhat of an overwrought, nonsensical analysis of the situation.

Think you could come up with a summary? It sounds like you are blaming the war on "the jews". That would make you more of a Nazi than an anti-war protester.

Your remarks are so convoluted that they would be laughable if they weren't so offensive.

"Republicans are more honest" you say. How to describe that comment. Bizarre doesn't quite do it justice.

bluesnot: I apologize for not making myself clear.

I do blame the Iraq war on the lies of jews. The democrats and republican jews united for the Iraq.

Whoops, I posted this on the wrong article....this is better!

I just now got home from DC.

The march went great until we came upon the vile Gathering Eagles group - what a bunch of evil people. Some of us tried in vain to engage them but they were more interested in screaming obscenities at us. They were lined up behind barricades along the end of the route by the Capital Building (funny how they are willing to stand there and shout but not large enough to get their own "Support the Bloodshed" march).

One incident that didn't get NYT's attention was at the end of the march while the Iraqi war veterans went to the steps of Congress for their "die-in" one of the Gathering Eagles (with several other A-holes following behind) grabbed a picture of a fallen soldier off of a casket that was being wheeled by the parents of the soldier - they were part of the march. The father yelled at the A-hole but he just kept walking and the father tackled the guy to get it back when the A-hole's friends started beating the father. It got ugly but it was near the Port-A-Johns and hundreds of people were milling around and they managed to surround them until the cops showed up.

Otherwise the march was magnificent - so many people from all over the world coming together on the most perfect day of sunshine and life saving cool breezes.

On a personal note my son and myself met Cindy Sheehan and I got a picture with her. It was like meeting a rock star except that she was genuinely nice - she hugged the stuffings out of me.

I hope those in the NY area can make the next protest at the UN on September 25, 2007 when Bush goes there to beg for permission to bomb Iran - we have to keep up the pressure, change is only a heartbeat and a pacemaker away!

PEACE & LOVE TO ALL!

Thousands of anti-war protesters holding black and yellow signs saying "End the War" filled the park in front of the White House today demanding an end to U.S. occupation of Iraq. Police said they arrested 189 people, one of them on a felony charge of carrying an incendiary device.

It"s not too hard to see what makes them tick. Like most everyone else on the planet, these people want to be a part of something larger than themselves. For most Americans, this need is satisfied by having families or going to church or belonging to a group or club or softball team; for the moonbats, it can only be fulfilled by marching around militantly singing John Lennon songs and pretending to be an evolutionary step past me and you. We"re not going reach them with reason, we"re not going to out-cuss them, and we"re not going to intimidate them. They hate America and everything it stands for, they revel in their self-appointed hero status, and they also revel in a kind of self-granted martyr status if you confront them. And if you get in their face or do something that they don"t like, the "peace" rhetoric gives way to violent action in a nanosecond. I have some footage for proof.

Talk about protests. HuffPost has closed all discussion/posts about O.J. Simpson's arrest. It's censorship plain and simple. What is HuffPost afraid of? This isn't the first time this has happened either. I suppose free speech is limited at HuffPost to just a few subjects.

Huffington Post has decided to slash and kill comments for the story.

"What troubles me, the thing that is so dismaying, is they don"t realize the big picture," said John Aldins, 54, who came from Media, Pa., with his wife, Karen, and daughter, Rachel, to show their support for the troops. The Aldins have three other children serving in the military. Rachel Aldins will join the Army in the fall to serve as a nurse.

"It"s not just Iraq, it"s the whole Middle East," Mr. Aldins said. "It"s not a red, blue or pink issue. It"s an all-of-us issue."

What does this nonsense mean? Were these the comments of a pro-war or anti-war demonstrator?
I'm certain that every anti Iraq war protester I know feels that indeed they ARE supporting the troops by demanding they not be employed in a fruitless enterprise that does not address the issue of the certain deadly trouble that rises against us in the middle east. This romp in Iraq doesn't diffuse that one whit. There is considerable evidence that suggest that it escalates the danger to all of us and certain proof it's killing our brave young and countless numbers of innocent Iraqis.
Let's send Cheney and Bush to meet Osama bin Laden and his top deputy to duke it out mano a mano.
If nothing else, the world would be rid of four fools with wrong headed tunnel vision.

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the soldier,
who salutes the flag,
who serves under the flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag,
who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Did you just get this in "the email?"

A "soldier" is a tool for use by his or her government. The soldier has not "given" us anything but protection--when they are used wisely. They should be revered and respected for what they do.

Most of the statements that that you mistakenly parrot the "soldier" has given us, were actually due to the actions of Liberals. You can do your own research starting now.

Your cut-and-paste seems to indicate you are confusing our Constitution with one of our national symbols, the flag.

Please do not do it again.
