Former federal judge Michael Mukasey, picked by President Bush to replace Alberto Gonzales as attorney general, appears unlikely to face a bruising confirmation battle in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

Mukasey handled high-profile terrorism cases as chief judge of the federal courthouse in Manhattan for six years. His selection was to be announced by Bush at midday Monday in a Rose Garden ceremony.

Mukasey, 66, currently serves as a judicial adviser to GOP presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani.

You can bet that if Bush likes him because 'he agrees with me', Mukasey is likely to be willing to light a match to his own integrity to make Bush happy and keep all those lovely secrets secret.

Mukasey needs to clean some DOJ toilets and make them shine "like the top of the Chrysler Building", and pretty damned quick. An investigation immediatly about the DOJ voting interference would be nice! Before the next Presidential Election!!!! Please. Blackwell in Ohio, ... destruction of ballots, ... placement of machines. Remember???

Oh, ... also, Dump any association or contact with Rudey Ghouliani, ... good justice Mukasey, ... or you will give us 17 months of Maxi-Lax therapies on you before the Congress ever thinks of approving you!

To the Dems, ... Make damn well certain this man is up to muster, or face our disdain, ... (i.e. Vote You Out Of Office) for screwing up a third time. We are a bit sick of criminals running our Justice Department!

Let's dispense with this Leahy posturing in the courts right away. The man needs a public slap-down.

Your Democrat Party needs to keep being reminded of the separation of powers.

The WH should get the AG to demand the communications between Leahy and his staff showing the influence on him from non-government support groups.

Leahy is still pissed off from being dissed by Cheney, who told him to "go f..k yourself", on the floor of House, if I'm not mistaken. He won't settle down until he lands a counter punch -- and here's one way to do it.

So Leaky Leahy wants classified documents? What Leaky Leahy wants and what he gets are two different things. I wouldn't trust him with Civil War battle plans.

"Looks like Senator Leahy is insisting on doing what he promised."

We'll see.

Looks like Senator Leahy is insisting on doing what he promised. He wants White House documents on DOJ investigation before confirmation hearings.

Good Senator. I like Leahy.

Oh well at least he's not from Texas so at least he may be able to read the Constitution.

Surely there is somewhere in this land a jurist who is NOT A POLITICAL PARTISAN, let alone a political partisan currently ACTIVE in this elections horse race !?!

You can see it now:

Former Giuliani adviser and current AG pressing for more voter integrity cases in blue states.

Good maneuver..!

We should know if the Justice Dept. is breaking the law..!

Why aren't they being charged with obstruction of Justice..?

This is why they call it The "Criminal" Justice System..

How about Bush's head on a platter, too. Impeachment may be off the table, but a criminal prosecution may not be. Get him, Pat. Get 'em all.
