WSJ Scoops NYT On Greenspan Book

Former Fed Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan's new book, The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World, officially comes out on Monday, Sept. 17th. The plan was for the book to be embargoed until then. Oops. From the NYT:

His book was provided to The New York Times by his publisher, Penguin Press, under an agreement that nothing would be reported until its publication date, on Monday. But The Wall Street Journal, saying it had purchased a copy from a retailer, published excerpts on its Web site on Friday night, freeing other news organizations to do the same.

Scoop only meant something when being first had a reward, with almost instant repetition possible scoop no longer has meaning.
And I do not see why, if something is available it has to wait for some 'unveiling' to have meaning or to secure and audience.
