Only a few stars took home Emmys, but the rest didn't have to walk away empty-handed. USA TODAY collects some prizes celebs scored at pre-show swag suites.

John Krasinski (The Office), platinum cuff links by Hearts on Fire worth $10,000 (Platinum Guild International Jewelry Preview).

Debra Messing (The Starter Wife), an eight-day, all-inclusive vacation from El Dorado Resorts and Azul Hotel in Mexico valued at $8,000 (GBK Productions Gift Suite).

Actually I DON'T understand why it happens. Unless the star signs an agreement that their name can be used in conjunction with them accepting the free gift AND endorsing it, why in God's name do these companies give rich people, most of them millionaires, VERY EXPENSIVES gifts for free?

I've heard where most of them have their assistants sell of those things that the star can't get rid of as presents to friends, then get the money off of the product.

On one of the talk shows, one of the star guests was talking about how she got this fabulous watch from an equally big star and realized it was the same watch she had gotten at one of those freebie rooms and he had simply given it to her without spending a dime or any time getting her a gift.

This freebie crap is the single stupidist thing I have ever seen in relation to what and who these people are.

Anyone see the Sopranos episode where Ben Kingsley went into the freebie room? It was obscene.

I understand why it happens but it's still obscene. We can only hope at least a few of them will auction their loot for charity. And report it on their income tax!

Didn't anybody get carbon credits, like they did at the oscars? Another Hollywood trend bites the dust.

The rich get richer.

Rich people always get free things. I hope some of the celebs refuse the swag.

I just love all the class envy that stories like this bring out.

Its funny how they won't get thrown under the bus for taking freebies, which they do every day of their lives, unlike Starr Jones who was burnt at the stake for taking freebies for her wedding.

Hypocrites.

There's a difference: Starr Jones demanded and negotiated her freebies. Celebs at awards shows have gifts thrown at them.

Jones had a court case where she received tens of thousands worth of gardening in exchange for her mentioning the gardener in a magazine interview. The gardener didn't get the publicity and sued. She offered an autographed photo for payment.

I disagree, they offered and she accepted but she shouldn't have mentioned their names on her show because that gave haters ammunition.

I never heard of the gardner incident, and I thought I was pretty versed on this subject. I'll have to look up that one.

Hopefully, no body ever has to tuck their tails between their legs to report to our accountant masters at the IRS, though as long as people think the government has a right to not only tax you but know how you make it, and make us believe that "geeze, there's just no other way" (as they shrug their shoulders and look at their heaping rice bowls), we're screwed that way.
As far as these celebs getting all that swag...so what? News articles like this, thought there's precious little in the way of news in the article itself; what? "rich and famous people treat each other swell!"...some headline....anyhow, news articles like this seem to be designed to do nothing except provoke envy in an already too greedy society. I'd rather be poor and left alone...though the IRS has seen to it that the "being left alone" part is not gonna be easy. The only reason I can see to be rich and famous is to buy a staff to take care of the crap the rest of us idiots feel is our civic duty to be humiliated with.

Ditto.

I'll take poor and left alone anytime.

Hope they remember to report it on thier tax returns.

Yes any gift of this size would get reported to the IRS and if a matching amount wasn't on the 1040 they would get a nastygram from the feds.

I think we are all wise enough to realize that the reason the companies give away these things is so that they can appear associated with the star in stories like this one. So how much do you think John Krasinski would get for a personal endorsement from Hearts on Fire for their jewelry? A pair of links that they most likely spent no more than a small fraction of in direct costs to manufacture is dirt cheap for a celebrity endorsement. Ditto for Debra Messing and the Azul Hotel. Yes the package costs 8 thousand but what is the hotel's incremental cost? (since few hotels are ever completely full)
