Bloomberg: Insurgents In Iraq Like Americans Who Fought British

In his most detailed comments on the Iraq war, Mayor Bloomberg last night suggested the United States was in the same difficult position as the British in the Revolutionary War - facing a determined band of insurgents.

Bloomberg said the comparison occurred to him when he visited his mother recently and was driving through Lexington, Mass., where a scrubby group of farmers rose up against a well-trained militia more than 200 years ago.

"We're the British," the mayor said during an interview with Tom Brokaw at Cooper Union, part of a series featuring potential presidential contenders hosted by former Gov. Mario Cuomo.

The only newsworthy of Bloomberg's comments is that 1. This comparison has just occurred to him, and 2) he has the balls to publically discuss it.

If you studied American history or even read any recent bestsellers about the Revolutionary War you realize quickly that Washington led a band of shoeless young men against the greatest military operation in the world at that time. It was only on their belief in freedom (which was also tied to religious beliefs) that these men could be held together through the hell it took to fight the British.

They used terror and vadalism to start the war (Boston Tea Party), armed themselves, and created militias to take on foreign invaders.

One could on and on, the point being we Americans were right, and the British were wrong, and the good guys won.
Now thanks to our present day Mad King George we are on the wrong side of a conflict that is a passionate fight for freedom and survival for the Iraqi insurgents.

The Boston Tea Party was, well, a tea party in comparison to some of the real atrocities that were committed by both Tories and rebels against civilians on the opposinig side during the Revolutionary War. Things maybe weren't as ugly as what's going on in Iraq now, but they were pretty bad. The version of the Revolutionary War that most people know about has been heavily sanitized.

i would be more inclined to compare the insurgents in iraq to the native american indians. not the greedy white men that were the so called revolutionaries. if i remember correctly, the native americans were here first. their land was invaded by the white man. occupied by the white man. in return they were driven off their lands. it had never been ours to begin with.

'Stealing' is an interesting choice of words...are the various tribes shanghaiing people off the streets? Are they strong-arming visitors to their casinos? Do they have ownership in any of the hotel/casinos in LV or Atlantic City? Curious perspective... BTW, does white management equate to complicity?

"When New York is bombed again...": do YOU have specific information regarding an attack that you are clearly predicting? Perhaps you could share this information with the boys and girls in Homeland Security. There are enough right-wingers predicting another attack that lends to the notion that they, somehow, must be involved with such an attack.
