Washington Post:

Former president Bill Clinton has emerged as a clear asset in his wife's campaign for the White House, with Americans offering high ratings to his eight years in office and a solid majority saying they would be comfortable with him as first spouse, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

But Americans said they would not regard the election of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as simply the resumption of her husband's presidency. Instead, two-thirds said she would take her presidency in a different direction, and half of all Americans said they believed that would be a good development. About half of those who said it would be a resumption described that as positive. [...]

The former president is very much at the center of his wife's campaign -- helping to raise money, muscling endorsements, providing strategic and policy advice, and joining her on the trail. But, after the political and personal turbulence that occurred during his two terms in the White House, there have been persistent questions about whether the nation is eager for what could amount to a third Clinton presidential term.

At this point, however, the former president is seen in favorable terms. Two-thirds of Americans said they approve of the job he did while he was in office -- virtually the reverse of President Bush's current approval rating, which stands at 33 percent. Clinton remains overwhelmingly popular among Democrats, and 63 percent of independents and even a third of Republicans also gave him positive marks.

I have a young college student in my office who went to Spain this summer to study Spanish there. It's a program the local university has for students. After finishing his class in Spain, he went into Portugal, back through Spain, up into France and Germany.

He said in virtually every place he and his friends stopped, they were met with either "You f---ing Americans!", or "Why didn't you just keep Clinton as President? We LOVE Clinton!"

I think NAFTA was bad too. But NAFTA can be fixed in a matter of a year or so. The economic hole the Bush Administration has dug for America won't be fixed for 2 or 3 generations. It amazes me why so-called Republicans dislike Clinton. He was actually the best Republican president in decades. He trimmed and consolidated the size of the government, he cut government spending, he trimmed the deficit, he built a surplus, and he was pro state and individual rights. Those are all things Republicans say they believe in.

The only thing I can think of that makes them dislike Clinton so much is that they're afraid of him, because he was so effective and so popular, and choices made out of fear or with your wallet are ALWAYS bad choices.

You've got it spelled backwards! Bill's a dog. If he can't find anything to screw he just pisses on the premisis.

Read the polls and weep, sucker. The chimp in the White House will NEVER have this kind of approval or affection. Spin away, the truth HURTS, doesn't it?

Bill Clinton might be God but he is married to the devil and a witch.

If Bill Clinton is such a Big Dog, why does he lack the BALLS to call for the impeachment of Bush and Cheney for their many crimes?

that's a really good question.

Because he's changed his name to William Jefferon Clinton-Bush. Is he HW's 4th or 5th son?

Oh boy! You asked this dumbest possible question and people are calling it "good"?! As protocol, NO ex President EVER calls for the impeachment of a sitting President. GHW Bush did not in his case either!

How clueless is this Nader-herd?!

This says that these people are so accepting of him. But how many of them will instantly crucify him if you mention Monica? The Republicans let Kenneth Star spend what, $60 million to investigate what was a private family matter? Also keep in mind that many of these holier-than-thou neocons were f*****g on the side as well. Henry Hyde had an affair that broke up a marriage and caused a suicide. Did anybody go after him? No. Massive hypocracy to this day. Unbelieveable....

The issue that got him in trouble was the phrase, "That depends on what the definition if 'is' is".

He was not man enough to admit the truth before a sitting judge under oath at a deposition. He lied at a deposition. That brought out OJ's lawyer, Alan Dershowitz, who coined the new phrase 'sex lie'. Dershowitz went on TV arguing that a 'sex lie' is not the same as a regular lie. Yeah right, tell that to all the men who had to face divorce hearings because of infidelity.

Just remembering the BS they tried to feed us then is pissing me off again.

If he had just had an affair, then that's between him and Hillary, but it went beyond that. Once cornered he resorted to what he knew best, deceit and obfuscation. The same deceit and obfuscation he used to sell us NAFTA and PNTR for China. Then he went on change the subject by bombing Bosnia.

You have a very selective memory.

Lets tell it like it is.
Do you actually believe these polls from the coporate American mouth pieces?
Just who conducts these polls?
Who are the paid corporate American Whores???
Has any one every called You? They sure have not called me in my entire life.
What is Karl Roves famous playing card?
"Say it enough and they shall believe it".
I say this is nothing but Corporate Americas propaganda machine at work at its finest.
If people really believe this and go along as sheeple, then they deserve the worst that they get for voting for Corporate America and their whores....

All the polling shows the most uneducated part of the population are the biggest believers in Hillary Clinton. These are the same people who elected George W. Bush and should Mrs. Clinton win the whole world will pay the price.

The polls show no such thing. The people who elected Bush were the Christian Conservatives who came out in by the bus load to vote against Bill Clinton.

And the reason they came out by the bus load, was called MONICA.

MONEY does not translate to votes.
Polls can be skewed to the pollsters questions.
The American public is TIRED of being manipulated.
SHEEPLE are out.
Thinkers will be in.

I PRAY and HOPE!!!

Hillary and the DLC backed Lieberman,
Until she felt the heat and wielded out of all out support.
She voted for the War and continued funding of it.
She voted for the Patriot Act. TWICE
She voted a NV for the Credit Card and Banking Bill which Equaled a Yes in a Republican Congress.
She voted for the REAL ID ACT.
She would renew NAFTA.
She is a Corporatist.
She is not a Democrat.
She is part of the problem.

A veto proof majority in the Senate is more important than the Presidency. The Senate is the real seat of power in this country.

No, cloture! There probably will be a democratic President but the Dems also need 60 Senate seats.
Hillary will energize the Republicans and we wont get the ten additional, results-- more of the same.

ABC polling is so damn corrupt they're beginning to make Fox News seem as if they're actually fair and balanced ffs!

Hillary's record clearly shows that she acted in concert with the administration, not sure she would lead the same way Bill did. Besides she's going to make it a point that her administration is different than her husbands. Time will tell but I'm more inclined to say that she's going to lead us in different direction, one closer to the conservative side.

It looks like she is saying, "Vote for me and you'll get Bill." I don't see where she is campaigning on her merits. The only reason she has given me to vote for her is her "experience", which seems like code for "Bill".

I'm not a Hillary fan but that's a ridiculous statement. A person uses the assets that are at their disposal. Would anyone in their right mind ignore an asset of this magnitude?

Here are the choices unless Obama pulls off a miracle: a right wing christian lunatic or a secular militaristic moron like Guiliani against a fully paid for pro war corrupt democrat like Clinton. What a disaster!

Senator Obama can only offer a vehicle for change and liberation. If decent Americans, particularly young Americans under 25 year olds don't get onboard then like the stealing of the presidency by Dubya, we deserve what we get. If not I agree God help us "what a disaster!

I find it interesting that fringe liberals so readily accept anything they agree with, i.e. Obama is some sort of idealistic saviour, while being so outwardly skeptical of anything opposed to their belief structure, i.e. GWB's 2 consecutive presidential victories. You cry conspiracy anytime something does not work in your favor, but gladly accept anything that does. When Hillary Clinton wins the presidency will you be screaming about diebold? I doubt it. This strikes me as an extremely simple, and unfortunate, way for America's youth to think.
