Fox's Chris Wallace Backs Obama On Flag Pin

Barack Obama has an unexpected ally in the spat over his decision to stop wearing an American flag lapel pin, which he says has become a substitute for "true patriotism" since 9/11.

Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday, said this morning that he doesn't wear a flag pin either "because I kind of agree [with Obama] to the extent that I think that you can be a true patriot and not wear it."

Fox News has been covering Obama's flag pin comments heavily today, far more than the other cable news nets. At one point, Fox legal correspondent Judge Andrew Napolitano declared that Obama was "disrespecting the American flag" to appeal "to a hard-left audience." (Strangely, Napolitano voiced the very opposite opinion during the same segment. "I don't think it makes you less patriotic at all," he said. "I don't wear the pin, and I'm a patriot." Huh?)

Once again, this argument framed by a GOP.
What right does ANYONE have to question someones' patriotism for anything?

This argumant is so stupid and ridiculous-it just goes to show how weak the GOP arguments are.

As a living human being, I have a right to question anything, including anyone's patroitism, at any time.

that's called "judging" and no ya don't per:
"let he who is without sin, cast the first stone.".
0r
"people in glass houses should not throw stones".
It's this kind of mentality that is wrong with this country. Who decides that a plastic pin is a sign of "patriotism"?

When one looks at the men behind the pin,
GW ...... AWOL
RUSH ....... 4F
Libby ....... Felon in treason investigation
Cheney ..... Draft dodger
it is not the last refuge for a scoundrel, but the favorite rock of snakes.
The list of scoundrels wearing the pin goes on and on.

What have you done for our country lately or ever for that matter?

What relevance has that? I didn't see where ajax2 made any claims of such. If that's your defense of these individuals, it's pathetically weak. March on soldier, no victory here.

Holy Cow! Chris Wallace is thinking for himself. Isn't that against the Republican rules of conduct? I didn't realize that independent thought was allowed in conservative circles. Sean Hannity will probably develop a facial twitch over this. Next thihg ya know Bush will be hanging the Medal of Freedom around Wallace's neck while Roger Ailes ushers him out the back door.

Pins made in China are not a symbol of patriotism. Neither is voting for provisions of the Patriot's Act that infringe on the rights of American citizens. Makes me wonder if we have fallen into the trap of the Bush Administration that defines our values in terms of fake symbols and bumper stickers. It is time for us to use our brains rather than submit to more brainwashing.

If Senator Obama does not adorn himself with a flag pin everyday, Communist China gets one less American dollar and America gets one less pity issue to distract us from the real problems face our nation.

Hillary Sticks Pin In Obamas Heart. Man did Obama screw this one up.

"Hillary Rodham Clinton told FOXNews.com Thursday night that she sometimes wears a pin to show her patriotism. “Wearing a flag pin, flying the flag, pledging allegiance to the flag, talking about the values that are important to America, teaching your children about what a great nation you have, standing up for those values, speaking out … there’s just so many ways that one can demonstrate patriotism,” Clinton said at a Chicago fundraiser."

hey without patroitism who would fight our illegal wars for profits? we call these folks heroes bet hitler and most germans called their guys heroes when they invaded poland.

how many people have died due to patroitism and nationalism and we all live on the same planet.

religion patroitism and nationalism is responsible for more deaths then one can count.

hillary would wear hitler's pin if it got her votes. patroitism gets votes even when chicken hawks run for president. george jr knows this one very well.

Sen. Obama's patriotism and morality are not in question, at least with me.

I fly the flag on holidays, and when it seems appropriate. I have neighbors who fly a flag 24/7, as is their right. However, I would point out to them that running lights at night, to showcase the flag, 365 days a year, is just wasting electricity. Playing into the hands of the oil suppliers who sell us the means to make electricity may seem like patriotism to some, but like wearing a lapel pin 24/7 it doesn't prove anything.

If you need to wear a symbol to remind yourself or tell others of your patriotism it seems to me you don't have much patriotism. Actions speak louder than symbols. The ones doing the most crowing about patriotism and real patriots have done very little that can be referred to as action. That is, unless you count lying, stealing, corrupting, or killing without reason. what does that lapel pin look like?

This flag pin thing is incredibly shallow - not to mention stupid. I don't care if the guy wears a pin or not. Many of the poeople that wear pins are false patriots (bush & cheney as examples); so the pin means nothing.

Larry Craig wears a flag pin. Need I say more?

Chis Wallace,
* desperately seeking some kind of moral, intellectual and ethical redemption?
* Marketing ploy, hoping for larger sales of his new book --deemed a recipe for sadness...
* Actually starting to think for himself,
* Or a Rat Jumping a sinking ship?

"We'll win this fight, by Jingo
that's what we need to do
We've got the ships,
We've got the men,
We've got the money, too."

Whatever happens we have got
Uranium, and they have not
and MOABs that are mighty hot
eleven tons in every shot

A Cluster bomb for strawmen
A smart bomb with a view
Gets Dorothy
the big tin man
and little Toto too.

The lion will surrender
'cause cowards always do
We'll ship him off to Gitmo
For a tail twist or two

All this talk about flag pins, respecting the flag etc. strikes me as silly. It has always seemed to me that those who get worked up into a lather over the flag are the least likely to understanbd or respect the freedoms the flag is supposed to represent. They love the flag but oppose much of what it stands for.

Probably because alot of us veterans fought for that flag and we hate to see it abused and taken lightly. Plus we hate to see how we are treated when we are done. We hate to see how those neocons, like the ones currently in power, how they behave when they were never once in harm's way.

I mean, if you were a war veteran, wouldn't you hate seeing your own govt using the flag as a political tool??

Somehow or other I got the impression that it was illegal (or, at least, immoral) to WEAR a flag. The cheapo rhinestone replicas ought to be at minimum considered a manifestation of bad taste.

Bush took it one step farther towards total desecration when he ATE a flag made out of cake and red, white and blue icing, and then (presumably) passed it through his (YUK) digestive system. How "disrespectful" is THAT?

The junk jewelery flags are just part of the Republikker "fool-the-voter" crapla, just like "support the troops" (while, at the same time, they are accusing the seriously injured Iraq vets of having "previously-existing conditions" and refusing to pay for their medical care),
AND
the bogus "family values"at the same time they are cosistently trading in wives for new models, propositioning teenaged pages, and engaging in public-bathroom peeping and tapping.

And still they whine about people who burned flags 30 years ago. Apparently, the glitzy lapel flags, to Republickers, are a replacement for actually having served in the military.

Sorry, hit "post" prematurely,

2. She said, "People are saying he originally wore it, but now he doesn't." Actually, Obama said he used to wear it, but he took it off for a reason.

3. At the beginning, the other guy says, Obama said that the flag pin is not a true symbol of patriotism. Actually, Obama never said that.

Faux news. Let's just make it up.

Besides, a flag pin is like the cross on a chain that the criminal only wears when they are in front of the judge. To some it has meaning, to others it's a manipulation.

Let's face it, the soldiers in Iraq aren't wearing flag pins. Does that mean they aren't patriotic? I think we're overdue for a discussion on just patriotism really is. It's not as petty as a piece of metal. That much I know.

True patriotism?? Here's an example. Remember right after 9/11, when all the Congressional Dorks led by Hastert and Frist, all rushed out onto the steps of the Capitol and did the whole photo-op "pledge of allegiance" deal???

True patriotism would have those Congressman doing that on a daily basis, standing outside rain or shine, and doing that same thing.

But instead, they chose to use a national tragedy for their own political gain, while using the flag as the political tool to achieve that gain.

Cretins, the entire lot of them.
