Pelosi Slams Bush's SCHIP Veto

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace and slammed President Bush for vetoing the expansion of the children's healthcare program known as SCHIP. Speaker Pelosi made a critical point about how much the Iraq war is diverting American resources from important domestic priorities, pointing out that the cost of insuring ten million children for one year under SCHIP equaled the cost of funding the Iraq war for forty days.

59 trillion id debt and 85% of that is from social security and medicare. That's over $500,000 per household. The war is a drop in the bucket.

If you a middle class and make $40,000 per year, the government would have to take 50% of your paycheck for the next 25 years to pay that debt.

Phase out all social programs.

oh, I see...one can lament about the cost and NOT have the balls to stop funding the travesty. Particularly, in this case, it has been the responsibility of Nancy to stop the funding and stop the war.

She is just a traitor to the USA citizens like the rest of congress and the supreme court as well.

Stop funding the war and use the money to fund SCHIP. Gee, isn't that a no-brainer?

Instead, Nancy and company want to impose a sales tax exclusively on people who smoke. Works for millionaire Nancy...talk about a regressive tax!

With Democrats like these, who needs Republicans?

SCHIP=CYA for Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats who have not started a reverse in Iraq, who have not held the Bush administration accountable for its crimes, who have not addressed the tax inequalities in this country. . . You can CYA all you want, Nancy, but you can't cover our eyes.

For Pelosi; two wrongs make a right.

Pelosie should just shut up, she is a useless over educated nit wit, like so many.

Another give away program for the Democrats to control. Many of the people Pelosi thinks need the coverage do not need it. More Socialized control waiting on government oversight...ABUSE.

For once Pelosi is doing her job, but its not enough to just talk the talk, she as to walk the walk. Its time for her to get the 38 percent vote to end this damn war, charge Bush with war crimes, treason, freeze his and cheney's assets, get the troups home asap, and impeach and federally charge them with theft, murdur, acts of collusion.

Nancy, what a fabulous job you did in the interview with Chris Wallace. Your were calm, consisive factual and composed. I think the look on his face was real surprise when he couldn't get your goat even once. I loved the end when you made the comment about being a boys place till now. Go Girl!!!!
10:21 AM on 10/08/2007
Oh yes, that Nancy Pelosi....all words, no substance. What leadership has she shown to inspire any fear from the GOP?

Is she going to hold the Republican's feet to the fire? You must be joking.

Will someone please explain to me why the Democratic Speaker of the House of Representatives was giving the smallest iota of credence to the idiots of the most disgusting tv channel, including that bonafide asshole chris wallace, by sitting in their puke-filled station?

How can we believe this story... It was on FOX News...

...FOX News lies about everything, according to the HuffBots...

I think they used the "Seinfeld Vision" technology perfected by Alec Baldwin to make her say these things in the video.

Asked on Fox if she prayed for US troops to win in Iraq, she said: "Of course I do. Of course. What a question."

...............

Actually, she should have answered, the troops won along time ago, but are now just caught up in failed policies preventing them from coming home.

You hit the nail on the head! Even the Speaker of the House can't tell the truth, but then again, why are we surprised? It is always about our money and their power.

I was being snarky about taxing the overweight cindyw. I am fully behind getting children health care, in fact i want the whole US health care sysytem to be non-profit...no one should be refused care when ill.
I am simply against using a "sin" taxon anyone.
As far as smoking goes...it was stupid for America to go so far to the Pro-smoking, denial of the obvious ill effects of inhaling smoke as it is Today to go so far as to treat smokers like Evil beings...and second hand smoke is the same bad science that was used to deny the ill effects of smoking.
HEPA filters remove Plutonium particles and can handle cig smoke...no manufacturer would risk saying so though.
Maximum Freedom for the individual and intelligent ,scientifically based public policy is what creates a great and prosperous country.
Having a civil and polite populace helps as well.

This useless botoxed grandma really does not want to end the war, no matter what she says. If she did, she would move heaven and earth, take all kinds of heat, to see that the deed is at least started. I am sick to death of her. She needs to get her s**t together or get out of the way.

Its easy to scream, end the war end the war without understanding what the hell is required to even do such a thing. Even to cut off funding the Dems do not have the required votes.
08:31 AM on 10/08/2007
The Dems control the House with their majority,

the Dems control the Appropriations Committee where by law, ALL funding bills must originate, and,

unlike the Senate, where a "super-majority" is required to pass legislation over the objections of the minority party, in the House, only a simple majority is required to pass legislation.

Additional funding for the so-called "war", could be denied in the Appropriation Committee, which David Obey chairs but it won't be. He valiantly launched that trial balloon last week only to see it shot down by the Democratic House leadership within minutes.

And in spite of howls and screams about obstructionist Republicans in the Senate, responsibility must be shared with obstructionist Democrats in the House who apparently have determined that it is better for them politically to continue funding the ongoing military occupation of Iraq, than to stop it with a simple action.

Wake Up America.
09:18 AM on 10/08/2007
That's bullshit.

The Dems can cut off funding for the war quite easily - you just don't bring the next 20 billion dollar appropriation bill up for a vote. End of story. Done deal. But it takes balls.

Granny is a total disappointment and has no credibility. She should stop her incessant whining and go masturbate.

All studies have shown that as far as health care costs , smokers cost less then non-smokers. they tend to die quick and early.
being fat is as bad or worse and the USA has many more fat people then smokers these days.

You need to also take a look at the effect smokers have on the environment around them. Second hand smoke they put out could be killing a non-smoker.
