ABC News Political Radar:

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: With debate raging in Washington over children's health insurance, congressional Democrats found a new way to make their case for an expansion last weekend: Rather than have a senator or a congressman respond to President Bush's weekly radio address, they decided to have a child who was helped by the program speak directly to the public.

But the 12-year-old boy whom Democrats chose as their poster child is now at the center of a firestorm in Washington and beyond. Conservative bloggers who uncovered some details of the family's finances are blasting the family, calling the fact that they rely on federal insurance an example of how the State Children's Health Insurance Program has expanded beyond its original intent.

Repiglicans are bullies anad cowards - that's why they go after children. This can be explained by the fact that Conservatism is a mental illness.

You may have to cut and paste the link - Huffpost messes this one up.

The absurdity of this debate is the notion that a family making 50 to a 100 thousand a year is on easy street and can afford health care. Unless that family has employer provided health insurance, comprehensive health care is a struggle, if not an impossibility.

If the kid in question and his family are not worthy for whatever reason, then let's apply the same standard to our millionaire elected officials.

The system worked in it's current form.

This child got the help he needed under the exsisting system.

The debate is about adding more and more affluent recipients to the system and making more people eligible.

This boys parents make between $45,000 and $50,000 per year.

How high should the system cover?

$65,000? $85,000? That's the debate.

I think for most conservatives the issue is how we're going to pay for our current social programs before we start thinking about expanding.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:27 PM on 10/10/2007

Well, we could start by repealing the huge tax cuts to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. By 2010, if Bush has is way, the wealthiest 1% of Americans will get nearly 53% of ALL the tax cuts, while the 2 lowest economic groups in the country will actually be paying more tax.

The only real change in the new SCHIP and the old one, is that the new one would cover families who earn a maximum of 3 times the poverty level amount ($20,000). So that's $60,000 dollars. If you're a family of 4, buying a home, how far does $60,000 go today? Certainly nowhere near as far as it did when the original SCHIP was enacted. Rising costs of living have eaten up the difference.

Read the bill. There is nothing about $83,000 or illegal immigrants being able to use it, or any of the crap the Republicans have tried to cram down our throats.

You think what the regular republicans are doing to this kid is horrible? Just wait until the Religious Right gets their hands on his little bottom.. They will show him what their version of the hand of God does to little troublemakers.

Read the comments and you get a good look at the typical Conservative's view of how society should work. Conservatism is a siht stain on this country. Greedy, selfish, narcissistic, and immoral.

This entire conversation about health care is becoming more and more ridiculous. Anyone with an IQ more than two digits knows that we need a National Healthcare Plan. Medicare for everyone.

Keep posting your ugliness NeoCons, so that everyone can see what your really all about. Keep digging that hole Rethugs. Six feet deep will be about right. You will need a place to bury the rotting corpse of the GOP after the next election. Compassionate Conservatism is an oxymoron morons.

People are sick of your NeoCon BS. Your just spoiled brats that never learned to share your toys and your about to get a much needed time out, although I would prefer administering a little corporal punishment. You need your asses whipped.

So, how will you pay your half million dollar share of the nation debt to cover the current social programs?

Make the rich pay their share of the taxes. Do you think making $45,000 to $50,000 is rich? Tax cuts do not work. The debt belongs to the rich. They have made it so big by lobbying for these so-called free-market policies that have been shown to not work. It didn't work in South america and it hasn't worked in Iraq. You want to live in a third-world country? That is what we are becoming. It is funny now that we are in so much debt to China; their middle-class is growing and ours is shrinking.

Doug, we could start by stopping the illegal occupation in Iraq. That's eating up several hundred thousands a minute!

Of course..only a 12 year old would believe the crap the liberals are selling. Mature adults understand that there is no such thing as "free" health care and that there are many solutions to the problems without Hillary Care. So the liberals want to trot out some kid to sell their BS? Let them. Liberals always play to emotions and leave the facts behind.

"Liberals always play to emotions and leave the facts behind." ---thank you Warmglobe for sharing Rush Limbaugh's deep insights into the human condition

That statement has been proven over and over again--- like GI Joe toy collecting Necons rushing off to a poorly planned war based on lies about yellowcake and mushroom clouds? While liberals were mentioning the obvious flaws in your precious invasion? Emotions--that's right--we are all a bunch of women, who should listen to tough-talking realists like yourself

GFY Warmglobe. You fucking fool. You trolls have nothing to say and are going down the tubes in November

So why drag a 12 year old into this if not for the emotional factor?

You mean like all those publicity shots Georgie Porgie does with the military behind him? That's illegal by the way.

And what about all those continuous references to 9-11 the Neo Fascists use? No playing to emotions there, right?

And speaking of facts...READ THE BILL!

OK everybody who is opposed to Socialized medicine and who is approaching the age of 65. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT sign up for Medicare. It is SOCIALIZED MEDICINE. Be true to your principles and demand that you continue paying for private insurance for any and all illnesses and medical procedures.

Those of you who already have Medicare need to demand that you be taken off the rolls and be allowed to once again have the honor and privilege of paying for your medical costs out of your own pocket.

But I know you won't because you only believe other people should adhere to your rhetoric.

So I take it Mr and Mrs "Have-More" couldn't get their 12 y/o home from boarding school in time to film a rebuttal

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:21 PM on 10/09/2007

Hmmm You seem to have missed a few facts, but why let that stop you. Son attends a private school, on a full scholarship. Cost: $500.00. Dad earns $45,000.00 a year, takes home maybe 36,000.00; health insurance cost: $14,400.00 a year. 40% of take home for health insurance. Sounds reasonable, right?Your stupidity? Priceless

Right now, with our CURRENT social program, that families taxes would have to increase to 50% for the next 25 years to cover their portion of CURRENT medicare and social security benefits.

I was not speaking of the family whose son is the center of this controversary.

Bush claimed his "base" is the "Haves and Have-Mores"

I was speaking of one of his Base Families getting one of their kids up there to film a rebuttal statement.

I'm sorry you misunderstood!!!!!

fact - it's not a boarding school. You're just jealous you didn't think to apply for a scholarship.

Wow, I guess I was a little vague!!!!!
