Huffington Post:

Jon Stewart hosted Lynne Cheney on last night's Daily Show and, where you might have expected him to push her on the general failures of the Bush administration, he sort of...backed off? He appeared, at times, to struggle over what to say, and although he lobbed her some general questions about Iraq and gay marriage, at one point he conceded, "This is very uncomfortable. Only because you know what, here's the thing: You're not your husband, and it's not fair to challenge you on things that aren't you." Maybe it's because she greeted him with a Darth Vader action figure or perhaps because she was generally light-hearted and agreeable throughout the interview, but Stewart seemed both deferential and genuinely respectful towards Cheney -- someone he clearly disagrees with -- and it was interesting (and unusual) to see him struggling in an interview like that for the balance of that respect with what he obviously felt very strongly about putting to his highly-connected guest. It isn't the most crackling interview in the world, but it's interesting insofar is it's one of the rare times that Stewart seems to be wrestling on air, without being completely in control. It was the type of interview that might actually encourage conservatives to join him on The Daily Show more often. That said, he did run the popular feature "You Don't Know Dick" -- but the respectful version, "You Don't Know Richard Cheney." When you don't have anything nice to say, sometimes saying nothing says it all.

Class goes a long way. Why ask her anything- she's nobody. If you are going to ask a guest on who has no direct effect on anything, then don't waste our time putting their feet to the fire. I find watching bill Mahr is sometimes to painful to watch when it appears they invited a 'conservative' on just verbally stone- giving these mouthpeices' credibilty. She need to be asked to answer for nothing becasue she is nothing in the big scheme.Just DICKS piece of ass (yuk)
Jons a class act- lead by example. I hate combative interviewers, no answers are ever really achieved from the guest (Matthews monologues comes to mind)

I'm not one to quote the bible but isn't there something in there that relates how the devil, when he comes, will be wearing Prada or something? I really had to watch this from behind my clutched fists with my jaws agape. How is it that this tin-britched escapee from a stud ranch finds enough gullible people who'd buy a single word of the nonsense coming out of what must be her mouth. Gad zukes.

I love The Daily Show, but I just couldn't watch her. She is as evil as her husband, and I'm a little disappointed Jon had her on. Let her sell her book somewhere else.

Huh? He was awesome. He did not respond to her hoplessly dumb, partisan assertions with easy fastball punchlines, or talk over the stony silence that greeted her idiocy. He just sat there in a posture of disagreement, and let her stupidity hang in the air until the audience groaned. It was beautiful!!! It may be the only reality check that this stupid woman has had in the last decade or two.

Lynne got owned.

And here I thought Mrs. Goebbels drank the Kool Aide after she poisoned her kids in the bunker. Damn, she's pretty well preserved after all these years.

I can't believe any of you would actually claim the Daily Show was "better back when" or "jon is losing his edge." The show is F****** brilliant, hilarious and a great source of the truth behind MSM lies about current events. What else on TV even comes close to what the Daily Show does? Maher and Colbert. That's it.

Be thankful you thankless complainers. This is 2007 glossy happy shopping but politically fascist America. We are LUCKY to have the Daily Show.

I saw Mrs. DARTH on Stewarts show !!!
what I want to know I why she thinks EVERYONE deserves FREEDOM,(but only gays) and then immediately after, becomes this CHENEY..BUSH..REPUBLICAN, that thinks they have the right to be (D I C T A T O R S) in our FREE COUNTRY !!!

She needs to practice what she preaches !!! We sure as hell wont get that from DICKY and FRUIT LOOP Bushy Boy !!!

im really surprised that the hot lesbian sex scenes in her previous books never came up, i think jon cut her some slack because the the cheneys have never backed down in support of their daughter, mary. darth on the other hand is a completely immoral man,a liar, and financially corrupt business man, dont worry, bush and cheney will face a greater judgement, than any court could give them

Also, a tip of the hat to the audience who were too smart for that Cheney b.s. She had a few lines which she used expecting applause - and didn't get it. I was stunned and really delighted at that.

It wasn't the interview we might have wished for, but it also wasn't the vice-president being interviewed. Stewart was correct in noting that it would be unfair to take her to task for her husband's policies. The exercise of restraint was appropriate.

As I noted in my comments about the Larry and Mrs. Craig Show on NBC--Mrs. Cheney is playing the roll of good Republican Wife. Husband VP probably told her to keep her trap shut or risk the same fate as their friend on a quail hunt.

I agree with DailyFoe. I think John beat the living daylights out of her.

I also disagree that he's lost his bite. He just keeps beating the crap out of the right wing vermin. I enjoy watching him beat up the cowardly chicken-hawks like Bill Crystol and exposing Bush. He is far funnier, and far more progressive than Bill Maher, although I think more is pretty good.

Although he has done a couple of softballs with McCain, he constantly mocks McCain and I really enjoyed his interview when he started off asking if she talk about McCain's "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" or how safe the Iraqi market is. McCain responded that he brought John back a gift -- an IED in John's chair.

He also attacks the Democrats pretty effectively too, something that not even Keith Olbermann does.

Well I think people are so hungry for a confrontation with Cheney even if its by proxy.

Jon was great.....the classic moment was when she went on about how "no terrorist attacks agianst US since 9/11", meaning that the war on terror is working.

Jon reminded her that the first time WTC was bombed was 8 years prior to 9/11.To her chagrin he also called her on her no attacks claim by referring to the Madrid and London bombings as evidence that terrorism was alive and well. Lynn really revealed her darkness when she said "she was talking about our interests" and he gently reminded her that they were our allies and we should be as concerned about their terrorist attacks as our terrorist attacks. She appeared as the true neo-con fool that she is.

Also, her rehearsed introduction was so disingenuous about how people in the west look each other in the eye blah blah and are honest....LOL.

I stopped watching Bill Maher a logn time ago because what's the point? He's just not funny. I didn't see this interview. But it kind of sounds like Jay Leno with Ann Coulter. You could tell by his body language it was like, oh f**k. How do I get out of this s**t? The advantage of Stewart over Leno? Stewart can push more and get away with it. Leno on the other hand is a total hack. He would NEVER get serious with some guest when he works for G.E. (still the largest arms manufacturer in the world).

It was a matter of being sent to Gitmo or not.

She was there to intimidate Stewart into backing off.
It worked. Oh, Gosh, look at the cute Darth Vader, ha ha ha.

I guess I was watching a different interview. I thought Jon was a genius, playing uncomfortable and easing Lynne into territory where she would rather not go. Did Jon put his head between his legs like Wolf? No.

This is a comedy channel, and you wouldn't see any major network interviewer go close to that gay marriage question after Wolf got shot down. Yet Jon got her to say bluntly that she does not support a gay marriage ban. He didn't let her get away with terrorism propaganda and "we're safe" because of Bush and Cheney BS.

Show me any other recent Lynne Cheney "book tour" interview where she is actually questioned and rebuffed.

Jon was being subtle and trying not to be confrontational and yet respectful. It worked in my opinion on muliple layers. He got his questions in, got her to talk and left the door open for others on the right to feel like if they agree to come on the show, they're not walking into a hostile environment.

I guess if there is no beating heart pulled from the chest; its a softball interview.

I wholeheartedly agree. Jon was subtle, respectful and entirely effective in wasting her. He was great. Sadly, some people just didn't get it.
