"Couric" Coined The Unit Of Measurement For Excrement By "South Park"

Huffington Post   First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

On Wednesday night's "South Park" on Comedy Central, Stan's dad takes what he believes is a record-breaking sized bowel movement, so he calls for an official weigh in by officials at the office of European Fecal Standards and Measurements in Zurich. The official unit of measurement is a Couric, named for the CBS news anchor, as explained in the clip below. Both Comedy Central and CBS are owned by Viacom.

Yes the news is mostly crap and though she reads it with a "twinkle in her eye" I know Ms. Couric has guts..I saw 10 or so feet of them on network TV..(top that, Paris)

Oh, the boys got it wrong. I guess they were in such a hurry to get this episode out, they misread the Scale of Fecality.

Everyone knows that 2.5 lbs of shit is a Coulter.

I've been a fan of South Park since its inception. Matt and Trey routinely make fun of celebrities for no reason. It means nothing; it's just two guys who don't like someone.

Being a fan of NBC, I don't watch the CBS news with Katie Couric, but I fail to see why Stone and Parker or whoever came up of the thought associating her with a unit of excrement. IMHO, not funny, doesn't make sense. I agree with those who have said it's basically bad bathroom "humor" that indicats to me they're running out of ideas and reaching. That said, although I haven't seen a lot of South Park shows, I've seen some I thought were hilarious. Come on guys and gals at South Park! Hopefully this was just a blip and not the norm.

It's because she's an example of a known giver of Crap - in the MSM silly - every time you watch the news on telly it's all crap, so why not a Couric, seeems quite logical to me!

South Park makes fun of: all the dumbed down and idiotic stuff in our culture, from video games to politicians to religion. How can you say it is dumb, or juvenile? It's very timely! Wow!

The finest show on television. Period.

"Some say" this is perfectly appropriate considering Katie's new penchant for smearing people without owning the statement by claiming "some say" it.
08:14 PM on 10/13/2007
Wow,

1 Katie Couric = 2.5 lb of sh*t

I wonder how Katie feels about that?

They are saying the "Network News" cannot be trusted because it's sh*t. And Katie Couric is the standard for sh*t when it comes to "Network News". I think it's hilariously true.

How about filming a live probe going up her channel and do some field measuring, I have an old webcam that we can use if that's not acceptable then I have another idea....

This TV show is a small part of what repugs & neo's count on:
"dumbing down". Don't believe they are against it. OxyRush & the rest of them piss and moan about D.D. but it's a false attack. A lie. They depend on it to stay in power (wow, go figure!).

How else could the Bush crowd stay in power? The more and the dumber the better.

Throw a few swift boat style commercials into the middle of the show, imbeciles believe it as god's honest truth and vote accordingly.

Indeed knowledge IS power, the neo's are very smart and crafty and will do whatever is necessary to win. They use their knowledge of D.D. the American Public to retain power.

Whomever becomes the democratic nominee will have every kind of crap the neo's can pump out of their sewage tank minds thrown at him/her as truth. It's not going to be easy never mind what any poll might say.

WOW You take South Park way more serious than most of us "Dude"
04:05 PM on 10/13/2007
Thank god I'm too intelligent to be entertained or waste my time on adult "cartoons".

Katie is no "right wing tool". Righties have nothing in their lives EXCEPT trying to trash every middle of the road and/or liberal they perceive, which means, if the person isn't kissing republican's butts, than they are a target for fodder.

I of course fail to see this humor. How do they relate Katie to anything bowel related? Is it because she had a colonoscopy? This is funny?

Is it also funny that the reason she did it is because her husband at the age of 43 found out he had colon cancer and died only a few months later, leaving a young Katie to raise 2 little girls alone... is this the humor behind the "couric"?

I'm not laughing, I can proudly say.

As for Katie and her new job, there's a lot more details to why CBS has always been in the 3rd spot for evening news which has a 95% audience of older people. Either way, keep in mind she has an audience of over 4 million viewers per night. She's an intelligent woman who's succeeded in her career. She has nothing to be ashamed about. She is a success in life.

cheers

Most humor is based on 14 year old boy humor consisting mostly of poop and sex, in other words, frat boy humor. Porky's, Something About Mary, Drawn Together and the entire premise of Comedy Central are just adolescent boys yuck yucking in the treehouse over playboys and beer. Even the Marx Brothers were outrageous and infantile for their time. It has always been so, and perhaps a reason why so few comediennes are popular. Comedy is ruled by the immature.

Personally, I think there are more deserving thugs to go after other than Couric and Bono. I think 10 years of South Park is enough, they are resorting to outrageous pranks to keep the humor going, and that seems desperate.
01:36 AM on 10/14/2007
You are very out of touch with what South Park is about. Do you ctually sit and watch the episodes? They are highly intelligent, witty, and genuinely poke fun at all the dumbed down things in America: television, ads, phony beliefs, more. The fact that anybody here thinks SP is juvenile is really weird.

South Park can be very funny, but the premise of their humor seems to be that people who take things seriously are by definition assholes. They've created a lot that I've found hilarious, but they've created an equal amount that I found offensive - not because it was in bad taste, but because it rested on an unhumorous and unfair premise.
BTW I read the Rollingstone profile on them and I have to say they seem like they are assholes in their personal life as well.

The irony brimming in this critique of South Park is hilarious in and of itself.

I think I can see why you the writer is offended when they perceive that " the premise of their humor seems to be that people who take things seriously are by definition assholes."
