Debate Flashback: Thompson Spent Two Full Minutes "Stuttering, Confused, And Stumbling"

Fred Thompson made his first major appearance in the CNBC/MSNBC debate earlier this week. It's difficult to say why, but Chris Matthews thought Thompson deserved more time than any of the other candidates. So how did the 18-year veteran lobbyist do?

Of the 15 minutes and 20 seconds Thompson was given, he spent over 2 minutes (14%) stuttering, confused, and stumbling over his own words. Personally, I want those 2 minutes of my life back.

It seems to me that the Republican party with the exception of Ron Paul are all pretty much the same. Oh and Fred Thompson who's Stuttering and Stumbling all over the place. He needs his screen script that he usually uses on Law & Order.

I posted a comment here after the debate the other night.
I said that I saw Fred Thompson looking and sounding much better than he had previously, and that a shift in undecided conservative Republican voters could give Fred momentum to infact take the nomination based on his anti-Hillary message.

I do concede that I only saw part of the debate and he spoke coherently during particular part of it. I missed the begining and left before it was over. I had no interest in seeing it through it's entirety.

I will consider my punditry more carefully in the future before going on record. Apparently he is still showing a real lack of presidential spark. The Thompson campaign is in reality not hardly taking off at all.
I was worried about another neo con running away with Florida, but now I see that may just not be possible, no matter how much they cheat or how unwilling Bush voters are to admit that they got fucked just as bad as all the 'Dumbocrat' liberals they hate so passionately.

Cheap shots. You can take anything out of context and make it look bad. Look what was done with Howard Dean and the 'yell'. There are policy issues to attack. Try those.

We can't really blame Thompson. There he was sitting placidly memorizing his lines for that lame lawyer show of his when the whole conservative world inexplicably beat a path to his door and prostrated themselves, begging him to be the savior of the Republican party! If Thompson now appears to be not equal to the task lets blame those who fell overthemselves getting him on the ticket in the first place. What in hell were they expecting?

I'm not going to say anything nasty against the child wife. Every 60-something should be so lucky as to find himself under a 20-something.

Not to quibble, but I think Mrs. Thompson just turned 40. Otherwise I agree with you. I don't care for Fred, but if he can keep a young wife, good for him. I doubt she's the bimbo she's sometimes made out to be.
