Idaho Senator Larry Craig and his wife sat down with "Today host Matt Lauer to break their silence and talk about his guilty plea in a sex sting at an airport bathroom. Craig answered a question about why he didn't tell his wife about the arrest until the press was about to break the story months later. We suspect that his reluctance to tell his wife stemmed less from his "embarrassment" and more from his desire to keep the arrest as quiet as possible. After all, Craig had a Senate career and a marriage to protect. From NBC 10/16

Ok, I cannot stand people who believe in war and private corporation controlled government (a-la-republicans and some democrats), but I have to stand up for senator Craig here. The cop was clearly profiling gay people, the senator did not take off so much as a pin from his coat, no money was exchanged or discussed, there was no nudity, you are allowed to touch somebody's boot with your boot (THAT IS NOT A CRIME). The cop obviously realized from the start that he was dealing with a Senator, and got a kick out of using his ill-gained power to push around somehow who normally pushes around police officers.

This nonsense must stop and police administration should be responsible for their officers who waste American resources pushing a faulty crime. It drives me berserk to hear this nonsense when we have problems in the world right now that may lead to the undoing of our entire civilization (terrorism, global warming, globalization, water scarcity, oil scarcity, more mercenaries than actual soldiers) The list goes on and on.

Just my opinion, but just because a guy wants a quick beej, doesn't necessarily make him gay. Maybe the little woman doesn't care for oral, and he felt that getting it from another guy wouldn't be considered unfaithful. Or not. Just musing here...

Craig probably really doesn't think of himself as "gay". Many men who are happily married fit in the same closet and get a little on the "down low". Frankly, I don't give a damn about whether he thinks he's gay, is gay, or whatever.

What PISSES ME OFF is that the son of a bitch is able to stand on the floor of the Senate had deliver his hate filled speech about homosexuals and deny them a right to live their lives in relationships recognized as "marriage". For these actions, I am confident that, the bastard will burn in hell. And, for that, I have no forgiveness.

Senator Craig is a hypocrite and a liar but HE WAS SETUP. What happened shouldn't have happened. It was entrapment.

The way that Craig was arrested was sinister and scary. I know Craig is what he is....a detestable human being, but that shouldn't have happened to him.

yes it should. It could not have happened to a more deserving pig either. If he had not been trolling for nasty bathroom sex he would not have been arrested. They don't arrest people who are just in there to do thier business. He is guilty, whether it was a sting operation or not, he is still guilty.

The man is a hypocrite and an liar. With so many good members of congress retiring this ass hol- continues to fight for his seat. He has now appealed the judges ruiling that he played with a cops foot because he wants to clear his name. The State of Idaho gets what they diserve when the inducted him into their hall of fame. The only lame excuse that they could give was that he was chosen before all of the news of his footsie game broke. What a bunch of asses in Idaho too. To honor someone like Larry Craig is an embarrasment to all of the ethical people in this country and I for one am completely fed up with arrogant assholes both republican and democrat that are running this country into the ground for my grandchildren. What a future they face when we allow people like Craig and Vetter to stay in congress when they are part of the hypocritical right that try to force their worthless values on this country. Thanks to all in Idaho who chose to honor this worthless piece of sh--. What does this say for Idaho. I guess we still have the potatos right?

After all that has happened in the last 6 years, the Republican Party can no longer be the champion of Family Values.

Republican corruption, convictions, sex scandals that promote infidelity among Republican senators, misbehaviour with congressional pages, hate mongering, conviction of White House Staffer, White House and staffers deceiving the public, the promotion of unprovoked invasions, the disregard for human life, disregard for the lives of our troops, pro-lifers unwilling to over-ride the president's vetoe of the S-CHIP legislation providing healthcare to children with death-threatening diseases, and personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with the Republican agenda.

The Democrats have, in reality, always been the party of family values. It is our party that promotes family values. That is the main reason why I am a proud Democrat.

Senator Craig is a hypocrite and a liar. I don't care that he is Gay. It could happen to anyone. What really disgusts me is his attempt to cover up his arrest and, just like Senator Vitter, his total disregard for his wife's feelings.

Infidelity, disregard for the sanctity of marriage. lying, hypocrisy, and the fact that you can commit all of these sins without impunity are all part of the party that promotes itself as the Family Values party. Christians who support Republican Candidates and donate to the Republican Party are promoting sin and are hypocrites, themselves.

I hope Larry King interviews Judge Judy and gets her take on it. I am certain she would say he is guilty as guilty can be. and lets gets some psychologists or body language experts to analize his performance last night.

I want to know exactly what it is about my "lifestyle" that he is so against. My lifestyle is just living a nice normal relationship with my lover of 30 years. We live way out from everything on a nature retreat and most of our time is taking one of the cats in for thier shots, or helping some wounded wild animal. I haven't seen the inside of a bar in 20 years. We have a lving monogomous relationship, separate bedrooms, harm no one. have nice friends...what exactly is it that bothers anyone so much about that????? Does he, in his irrational fear and misunderstanding just think that all gay men are involved in debuached bathroom sex? I'm 60 and sex is not a priority to me, being kind to people and animals is. what the hell is it about that that he doesnt approve of and who cares. How can this disgusting self hating hypocrite have the authority to judge me??? on what grounds?? moral superiority??? I dont think so! I am a kind and decent person and love my simple life out in the country with my pets and my lover who is also kind and loves the animals. we are not involved with anything ugly towards anyone. Larry Craig is a disgusting excuse of a human being and has NOT the authority to judge me in any way. He is a bigot and a hypocrite. He could learn how to be nice just by visting this gay couple.

Pangardenguru, you are too kind.

Larry Craig is the perfect example of the real leadership in this country today. He is a true American hero, a real man's man, the true strength upon which our government is based these days. Republicons see him in a Superman's suit.

He is also the perfect example of everything that is wrong with America today. We are being led by lying, hypocritical, sociopaths.

I feel sick.

You know what? I'm gay, I live in the city, am not an animal lover and have a hectic lifestyle. I am a law abiding citizen, but I do go to bars and play around.

And Larry Craig has no right to judge me either.

The saddest part of that interview about Craig's Tryst is that wife, who said she thought about if there was any time during their 20 year's marriage when he might have been unfaithful, and she was sure that there wasn't. Well, of COURSE she wouldn't know! He wasn't having affairs with women. Those always end up coming out eventually, a la Monica, etc. Men and women develop feelings when intimate. What Craig did was totally anonymous sex with other men, where neither one wants anything to do with the other whatsoever after sex, usually because one or both has a psyche of self-loathing due to the fact that their true feelings are repressed by society, and Craig's voting during his career is a huge part of it. That poor woman, she has absolutely NO IDEA what her husband is into. Stupid, dilusional woman.

It was truely hard to watch this public display of dishonesty. As others have noted on this thread, it's not so much the solicitation for gay sex in a public bathroom as the lying coverup attempt and the jaw-dropping hypocricy.

Laur REALLY should have played back Craig's denouncement of Bill Clinton during the Monica lewinsky episode. The real story here isn't just the attempts by Craig to "spin" this - it's the moral double standard of the right-wing in this country.

I say all good Americans going forward refer the Senator from Idaho as "SUCK PUMP" Larry Craig. a worthy nickname that hopefully will embarrass him or the other republican senators to the point that his sorry pathetic hypocritical self will RESIGN. what an embarrassing example of a public servant.

I swear! It has to be LARRY CRAIG who plays the voice of Charlie Brown's teacher! All I hear when he speaks is, "Whah WHAH WhAh wHaw WhaW whAw WHAH."

He should save his breath and save his wife from any further embarrassment. The woman has gone through enough! Although, the longer she supports his behavior, the less and less sympathy I have for her.
