Once women simply spent the housekeeping money doled out to them. These days they are more likely to hold the purse strings.

This was one of the findings of a report entitled Living Britain, which examines the trends affecting the country at the beginning of the 21st century.

I think it's a pretty silly article. Women who make money spend more? That's news? Money = power in this world. (Perhaps..)
We women are expected to make decisions about the clothing, domestic and personal care items, including washers & dryers, while "our men" do the important things like buy the cars-trucks-Hummers and the houses.

Women make important decisions about saving & investing also. And children & education. I was at a stock traders' summit last week where there were many, many women of all ages. There have been studies that show that women are better investors than men. We're busy and still there are silly non-news items like this. Sheesh...

"Womenomics is about the purchasing and physical power of women and there economic influence, not just thinking about how many women are in the workforce," said Mr Raymond.

Not only does the article seem like more pseudobreaking news filler, but it also sorely needs editing. "There economic influence"! What exactly is the physical power of women that gets mentioned here (or is it hear) that is happening in conjunction with purchasing power?
Are salaried women putting on more muscle mass, too, while they bulk up the paychecks?

Yay! Womenomics! Now is anything fundamentally going to change other than who is spending the money?
Less and less does feminism seem like it is interested in the pursuit of social justice. More and more it seems that it celebrates power for the sake of power - as long as it is held by women.

These women do not seem concerned that fewer and fewer men are attending and completing college. If these feminists are really concerned about equality then they should realize that the flip-side to their success is the failure of men.

To be clear I'm not saying that I'd prefer the reverse (men's success at women's expense) or that it is the fault of women that men aren't succeeding. I just thought I'd point out that in the midst of this gynocentric celebration there is a generation of men that is falling behind and that is not good for women either.

Don't you see?
By spending money, women win the battle of the sexes. Consuming is power, go shopping.

Economics news belongs in the BUSINESS SECTION, remember?

This is, if you RTFA, a whole lot more important to BUSINESS than at least one thing that appeared in the BUSINESS section today..."news" about Video Games Sales?

Excuse me, but I really do think that what 50 percent of the people in the world, more than 50% of the heads of household, and 100% of the mothers in this world spend their hard-earned money on is just a little bit more important to BUSINESS than the entertainment purchases of a few pimply-faced marginally employed teenage boys -- why don't you put that crap in the ENTERTAINMENT section?

Oh, does news about what Boys Buy belong in Business whereas What Girls do belongs in the Pink-Themed Entertainment and Living section? Gimme a break. This is Huffington Post engaging in Gender stereotyping again.
