Giuliani Woos Christian Right

First Posted: 03/28/08 03:45 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:15 PM ET

AP:

Rudy Giuliani tried to find peace with a restless bloc of the Republican Party Saturday, telling religious conservatives not to fear him for his stand on issues such as abortion or expect he would change purely for political advantage.

The GOP presidential candidate sought common ground with his audience by casting himself as an imperfect man who has asked for guidance through prayer.

Would everybody stop with the drag queen comments?
Just because he put on a costume doesn't make him a queen. He'd be much more interesting if he were a queen. ...which brings us to the drag part....

The evangelicals reject Guiliani now, but the last few years have shown over and over that these evangelicals are easily manipulated. They will vote for Guiliani just like they send their money into some smooth talking TV preacher.

Rudy Giuliani is a man besides himself. He can't get a fix on what to do. He can't get a handle on who he needs to appeal to and he seems not to understand what honesty is about.

Except for some editing of the last line this tune is appropriate to describe where the GOP is headed.

"I don't always agree with myself."

Now that's a statement channeling Bush if there ever was one.

Yup. Giuliani will win the Republican primary. Once a doofus in the White House has become the acceptable norm to the Republican base - as has been the case with Bush-the-Brainless - everyone else who truly wants that coveted spot will act like one.

We now have another quote for the "Meaningless Statement Hall Of Fame".

"I don't always agree with myself" can be enshrined along with...

"Trust but verify"

"If we leave now they'll follow us here"

"I'm a uniter, not a divider"

"Compassionate conservative"

"Guns don't kill people, people kill people"

This one seems appropriate for that list and fits in well with Ghouliani's insane remark"

"I can only speak to myself."--George W. Bush, Washington, D.C., April 28, 2005

SIRNAK, Turkey - Kurdish rebels ambushed a military unit near Turkey's border with Iraq early Sunday, killing 12 soldiers and increasing pressure on the Turkish government to stage attacks against guerrilla camps in Iraq.

The pro-Kurdish Firat news agency, based in Belgium, later said rebels also took several Turkish soldiers hostage. Firat cited guerrilla sources, but there was no immediate confirmation.

The Kurds want the US to help them fight Turkey. That would require another and even bigger Surge.

Military contributions shift - away from the GOP
Posted September 13th, 2007 at 4:05 pm

Assessed favorably this week by the war's lead general, the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq appears to be causing a surge of another sort - and one that's not positive for President Bush or the Republican Party. Since the start of the Iraq war in 2003, members of the U.S. military have dramatically increased their political contributions to Democrats, marching sharply away from the party they’ve long supported.

"People are saying now enough is enough," said Lt. Col. Joyce Griggs, an intelligence officer who said she spent two months in Baghdad earlier this year, speaking for herself and not the Army. "If you're a soldier, you're going to do your job, do what you're commanded to do. But that sentiment is wide and deep."
