New York Times:

It was not quite 2:30 a.m. in Washington on Tuesday when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California asked President Bush to declare an emergency because of the wildfires raging in his state. An hour or so later, the request -- pre-approved by Mr. Bush before he left the Oval Office on Monday evening -- was granted.

By the time most Californians awoke on Tuesday, the Pentagon had sent helicopters and troops to California and the homeland security secretary and head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency were on their way. By Tuesday evening, the White House announced that Mr. Bush himself would go on Thursday. He canceled a trip to St. Louis, planning to send Vice President Dick Cheney instead.

The compassionate frat boy in chief must have a post-it note on the bathroom mirror that reads something like: “Note to self: must project concern when national, and even international, disasters occur-ASAP!-even when on vacation and even when poor people are victims!”

Don’t be surprised if the Bushies are just as incompetent when dealing with mid to upper class victims-it will be interesting to see if this gang of empty suits can wrap their minds around the concept of not only helping people, but doing it in a timely manner.

It seems to me the main point in the situation is saving humans' lives. Why always such tragedies are to be shifted into the politics?

It's amazing what can get accomplished when the Governor is of the same political party as the President. What party was the Governor of Louisiana when Katrina hit?

Sorry Bush, you won't ever make up for Katrina.

At least not until you push as hard for New Orleans rebuilding as you do for that "emergency" 46 billion dollars for Iraq. Then again, you can't bring all those dead people back to life.

Let's see...

Bush can't run for President again.
Arnie can't run for Governor again.
California is a confirmed blue state.

Which Senate seat is Arnie running for, Feinstein's or Boxer's? And has he promised funding for a Bush library once he gets in?

I for one would rather see him get back into acting.

I never thought I'd say THAT!
