AP :

The White House scolded the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday for staging a phony news conference about assistance to victims of wildfires in southern California.

The agency -- much maligned for its sluggish response to Hurricane Katrina over two years ago -- arranged to have FEMA employees play the part of independent reporters Tuesday and ask questions of Vice Adm. Harvey E. Johnson, the agency's deputy director.

As for the press.

When the source of news is for profit.

The press is owned by the multinational corporations.

The press has been globalised, therefore the news has been standardised.

How can anything it prints be trusted?

All this is interlinked.

The FEMA news conference was fake, so what?

Every White House press conference is fake, they all have lunch together know each other as friends and sources. Why do you think only softball questions are lobbed? Its a clique, not a source of news.

Its all smoke and mirrors and the elite are walking away with the swag.

Need an enemy? Just make them up as you go along, then pocket the loot.

Financial centres set aside rivalry
By Jeremy Grant and Christopher Grimes in New York

Published: October 26 2007 17:05 | Last updated: October 26 2007 17:28

New York and London on Friday set aside their fierce rivalry as Michael Bloomberg, New York city mayor, hosted talks with City of London officials and Treasury secretary Hank Paulson on how to reduce regulatory barriers between the two financial centres.

The development is a sign that, even as the two cities are competing for financial services, they have quietly started a dialogue to help the world’s largest financial groups do business more efficiently in both places.

That is being driven by a recognition that the top financial firms in both cities are the same large investment banks, and that they want the cost of doing business cut by reducing regulatory differences on both sides http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/372ed57a-83d9-11dc-a0a6-0000779fd2ac.html?nclick_check=1=1 the Atlantic

WASHINGTON - A team of specially trained investigators will hunker down in an Army office north of Detroit on Monday to begin poring over hundreds of Iraq war contracts in search for rigged awards.

This team of 10 auditors, criminal investigators and acquisition experts are starting with a sampling of the roughly 6,000 contracts worth $2.8 billion issued by an Army office in Kuwait that service officials have identified as a hub of corruption.

First 10 then 100 then 1000. If they are allowed to do their job, it will get really messy.

State Dept. To Order Diplomats To Iraq
As Many as 50 Positions Are Expected to Be Open

By Karen DeYoung
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, October 27, 2007; Page A01

The State Department will order as many as 50 U.S. diplomats to take posts in Iraq next year because of expected shortfalls in filling openings there, the first such large-scale forced assignment since the Vietnam War.

On Monday, 200 to 300 employees will be notified of their selection as "prime candidates" for 50 open positions in Iraq, said Harry K. Thomas, director general of the Foreign Service. Some are expected to respond by volunteering, he said. However, if an insufficient number volunteers by Nov. 12, a department panel will determine which ones will be ordered to report to the Baghdad embassy next summer.

I am sure once informed that Iraq is not optional, they will remain diplomatic.

Wake up America! Time to vote for Edwards and abolish the Lobbies. Man... so many of you are so dumb!

Sweetheart,

Jimmy Carter sort of sucked, but by the time GW Bush is out of office...he will make Jimmy Carter look like an economic genius.

Gas is already $3.50 here in California.
How much was it before Bush took office?

A little bit over $1.00 a gallon.

BUSH SUCKS ASS. And no Republican running will do anything to change anything.

First let me say to those of you who should be using Email or something else to talk to each other instead of simply wasting bandwidth here.... get a room, please. There's 11 pages mostly of nonsense one line posts about nothing in particular on this thread. It's rude and a waste of a valuable public space. You should be ashamed of yourselves. Don't bother answering, I won't reply.

Now that that's out of the way, I have to say that given what the White House has tried to do with its Press Briefings in the past, this seems like these guys were just taking a page from the WH play book. Jeff Gannon ring any bells?

As for their claim to want to punish the wrong doers here, well, poor FEMA doesn't have the power of the Pardon, does it, so because the right wing machine is coming unglued, they think that punishment will now work to keep it together. From my POV it only means they are desperate, and shows they are losing control and power. Same thing with having to order diplomats to Iraq. There's examples all over the place. And you can smell the fear now. They did not even dare to punish the last two generals who spoke out against them.

Which of course means that bombing Iran is their last chance to keep control of their precious agenda of world control through fear, war, and oil. Remember they said Clinton was doing a Wag the Dog? Now we'll see this Administration doing it, big time. God help us and forgive them for they know not what they are doing.

"If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, THE TRUTH IS THE GREATEST ENEMY OF THE STATE." -- Joseph Goebbels, German Minister of Propaganda, 1933-1945

Freaking morons. But I have no sympathy for the MSM. If they'd been doing their job these last 10 yrs, FEMA never would have even tried such a stupid stunt. But we all know MSM is more concerned with not reporting the news. God forbid they piss-off their corporate masters. Plenty of blame to go around.

you have to consider the other, uglier, alternative.

the so-called media, is part of it.

the OIL-igarchy and the the Military Industrial complex bought the media long ago.

you don't really think the media is independent anymore, do you?

Just another reason NOT to trust Governmet. Im sure Neo Con God fearing christian rethuglicans will cinch up the blinder & narrow more their tunnel vision. To blindly defend and support this obvious stunt to deceive US Citizens. Same crap was pulled to get us into Iraq. Again when the bridge collapsed in Minneapolis. They publicly took credit for managing the disaster when they actually stood around with their thumbs up their asses watching the city of Minneapolis employees do everything. From coordinating traffic flow, search and rescue to clean up for a Federal Bridge on a Federal highway. Th Feds were their with their faces all over the place lying their about all the things they did(not do). When they did finally show up, they stood around and watch others run things from the emergency response center in Minneapolis. I personally know a the people who where in charge of it. Not once did they get any public credit. Just the feds who did almost nothing.

Everyone knows the bogus crap the Feds pulled with Katrina. Hell, even the President personally made promises and look how thats turned out. Now another pretend press conference to try to make it appear as if they actually cared or knew what they were doing.

Oh, lets not forget the play acting they are doing over Iran, just like they did for Iraq.

And what do much of the US citizens do? Sit back and take it up the ole' poop chute, pat them on the back and say " Heck of a job Georgy "
Were a country of foolish sheep, and the world knows it. The people we elect are morons, who are controlled by the capitalist mafia while we take it with a smile saying were the Greatest country on earth. Which is mostly said by people who havent been out of the country much less know anything about the world except the propaganda the gov tell us. We are such a stupid society in America. Dumb sheep gleefully grazing on burnt grass covered in shit and calling it Yummy.

Quit perpetuating the myth that Government can't do anything right. It does most things right when it is not saddled with corrupt and incompetent political appointees. The idiots who did this heckofajob were political hacks who do this kind of thing in an atmosphere that says it is totally permissible to lie and fool the public because that is what this administration has been doing for a number of years. The GOP is the worst at it but it also happened under the Clinton administration.

When anyone paints with an extremely wide brush and says that all the government is bad it fails to recognize the large number of federal workers who do their job as well as anyone in the private sector and in many cases they do it better. Corporations also have their agenda. We have some of the best scientists in the world working for the government and they have been censored by political appointees that have kept them from doing their job.

And yes, a segment of the American Public sit on their fat asses and complain. But what have you done other than come here and criticize?

St. Petersburg, Russia -

Officials announced today celebrated the news that a classified book on propaganda used extensively by Pravda was discovered to have been in use, though unsuccessfully, by the United States Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

President Vladimir Putin has called George W. Bush and demanded the return of the document.

Heads of the former NKVD are investigating how the document may have gotten into the hands of the American agency.
One anonymous source said the only reason that the fake news conference had failed was due to the fact that the Bush administration has fired so many people with any ability to read or speak foreign languages.

"Fortunately, we lucked out", our source said, "Pig latin and hillbilly redneck are *not* foreign languages, contrary to what the American President thinks."

Russian officials are investigating all former agents, as it appears that FOX news is playing by the very fundamental rules that the document is based upon.

Meanwhile, while most Americans grow more and more discontent with their President and the Republican party or what some called his "flying monkeys" (a reference to which this reporter could find nothing in any Russian literature about) there still remains a very small number of loyalists who are eager to please the American president at any cost. Though they are a small number, they are are vocal.

"They oppose education and prefer the solitude of their empty minds where they believe that only he [George W. Bush] can set the the course of man on it's divine course", noted Psychologist Ivan Pavlov said at a seance regarding the American phenomenon, "It was the same thing here under Soviet Rule with Pravda and Tass, now they have a much more major problem in the United States due to the MSM and the 24 hour news cycles."

Also at the seance was former Chairman of the Council of Ministers Nikita Khrushchev who only commented, "I did not need to bury the United States, they let Rupert Murdoch, their gravedigger buy them and he's been shoveling it on ever since."

In light of Pavlov's and Kruschev's words, President Putin may confer a medal of honor on the agent(s) responsible for the "dumbing down" of America.
