Iraq Troop: "I Don't Think This Place Is Worth Another Soldier's Life"

BAGHDAD, Oct. 26 Their line of tan Humvees and Bradley Fighting Vehicles creeps through another Baghdad afternoon. At this pace, an excruciating slowness, they strain to see everything, hoping the next manhole cover, the next rusted barrel, does not hide another bomb. A few bullets pass overhead, but they don't worry much about those...

...Asked if the American endeavor here was worth their sacrifice -- 20 soldiers from the battalion have been killed in Baghdad -- Alarcon said no: "I don't think this place is worth another soldier's life."

ACTUALLY, I'M BEGINNING TO THINK THIS WAR IS WORTH THE LIVES OF A LOT MORE "SOLDIERS".

It actually serves a valuable purpose if you take a step back and look at the big picture. Think about it. Who's going over to Iraq to fight for a criminal dictator regime that has total Middle East domination by military force as its agenda? Let's see - right wing Christian and Jewish wackjobs that believe all muslims are animals? War profiteer mercenaries that aren't skilled or ambitious enough to earn an honest decent living that doesn't involve killing other human beings? Video-game freaks that consider it a paid opportunity to practice better hand-eye coordination in the ultimate game of "kill the bad guy"? Or perhaps an arrogant self absorbed creep that believes Middle Eastern oil is America's birthright simply because America knows how to consume oil better than anyone else?

If these are the people America is sending to war in Iraq - I say - good, let's keep throwing out the garbage. America is choking on garbage and it needs some way of disposing it. The Iraq war is a perfect opportunity. Now if we could only find a way to throw out garbage like Ray Hunt, Paul Wolfowitz, Scooter Libby, Richard Perle, George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, David Horowitz, Alan Dershowitz, Douglas Feith, Karl Rove, Larry Craig, Orin Hatch, Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman........see what I mean - too much garbage.

It wasn't worth the life of the first soldier who died, or the first civilian. This was never worth anybody's life. Period.

This place = Baghdad. Period:

Ugh.

Volunteer soldiers are paid to dice with death. That is their job. Also, they have good life insurance.

5,000 to 50,000 troop fatalities fall in the general rubric of Acceptable Losses.

Such general rubric is in the lexicon of the Chain of Command, from Generals on up.

U.S. Realpolitik in action. No need to cry over spilt Weltsmertz.

Let's just take a look at your little theory, ZeroProfitLoser. "Volunteer soldiers are paid to dice with death. That is their job." You are wrong, because they didn't volunteer to fight for a bunch of psychopaths, like we have in the administration. They didn't volunteer for an unwelcome occupation. They didn't volunteer to drive around Iraq to get blown up by IED's.

What a clever neocon phrase, "dice with death", so clean, catchy and totally unrepresentative of what the troops are going through.

Actually, given that the Iraq war has been on for over four years, most people in the services have either re-enlisted or enlisted since the war began.

Pelosi or Reid = if you happen to read this - I too was for the war in the beginning - I was misled. After all the misinformation I made the remark - let's get the bastard.

Now I see that I was lied too and my and millions of others support was based totally on false info. Going to Iraq was a terrible mistake and now it's time to stand up to bush and END THIS WAR!

Pull the plug - America will support you - don't back down - just do it.

Amen to that dear soldier! But, Bush will keep you and many others there to die for his lie! Cheney and Jr. are gearing up to attack Iran, another WAR, another day to them.
If the roles were reversed and this was a Democratic President, he would have been drawn and quartered from the second week of the WAR by the right wing nutcases and blow bags like Ann Coulter, O'Really, and Rush!
How sad that even our military soldiers over there know this is a bunch of BS staying, but nothing will change. The congress has no balls, the Senate are a bunch of boot lickers and water carriers and the American Public is still going shopping!
I'm very sorry to say, that this poor soldier will also find himself being maligned by the very people who keep saying that WAR is good and the only answer to any problem and were suppose to think they are Patriots.
More rich white old men, sending young soldiers to die for their demented ideals.
God help our Soldiers and the people of America, were going to suffer the consquences of this mess for generations to come. Do you think Bush or the Republicans care? Nope, Cheney's going out to shoot birds, or whomever is in his sights, Bush will probably be drunk on his ass for the next fifteen months and the Democrats in Congress are deaf and dumb.
I think we need to just let the Govenors of each State run the country, we don't need George or another President that's going to keep us going down the path of destruction. Besides, they don't pay attention to the Constitution anyway.

Have you ever noticed how the very people who have never put on a uniform are always the ones to scream loudest about waging war and sending others off to die? I think the time for a real draft has come. No excuses, no deferments.

" "I don't think this place is worth another soldier's life."

It wasn't worth the first 3800+ deaths, either.

This 'war' is and has always been a a sham, and hasn't produced any of the resluts the Bu$hCo Crime Family had hoped for. But the death and destruction continues as Bu$hCo has their eyes turned towards their next FAILURE in Iran.

Troops Suck Up to Bush, Ask for Support

"But 85 percent (US TROOPS) said a major reason they were there was "to retaliate for Saddam's role in the September 11 attacks." These people are confused, to say the least. "

Sad. Sick. I'll help the ones that come back sick AND are decent, thinking folk. The others (and their dumb ass families) are on their own. Let 'god' help them.......

I disagree. This is about raw power and Bushie and Dickless want it bad. If it were about oil, we never would have invaded.

The military is a microcosm of America. There are heroes, cowards, honest, dishonest, lazy and energetic individuals of all kinds. I try to listen to all their points of view because I feel I owe anyone who gets deployed to a combat zone special deference. However, much to your chagrin, the number of soldiers who support this mission far outways those opposed as evidenced by record re-enlistment. Please feel free to show the numerous comments by those who want Iraq to be free, and not a terror-haven. One-sided discussion serves noone.

Right you are ... to this extent.

The military is not a PROPORTIONAL representation of America.

Any more than Tammy Bruce is a proportional representation of "women's rights" organizations.

The military is SUBSTANTIALLY right of center whereas the general electorate is simply right of center.

Another example ... Keith Olbermann. His appeal is limited and he is pretty much reaching his limit. But he still has that niche audience.

Enough of this left/right stuff. There are at least two axes to the political spectrum. One is the society/self spectrum that most people think of as left/right. But more important right now is the republic/empire spectrum. We need to stop being American the Supreme Empire of Earth and remember that our nation was founded as a democratic republic.

It was conceived by the founders as a government of the people, where policies can come and go, but our democratic values remain the guiding force of American political life. They warned of three major pitfalls:

1) No secrets. "A popular government without popular information or the means of acquiring it, is but a prologue to a farce, or a tragedy, or perhaps both."

2) No standing armies (or unitary executives). "A standing military force, with an overgrown Executive will not long be safe companions to liberty."

3) No private banks. "The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

Boy, did we screw up...
