CNN featured a gripping report this morning about a high school cheerleader who got tackled during the pre-game introductions. The 18-year-old girl was attempting to adjust the team's banner when they broke through it and knocked her down. The report plays the hilarious footage a total of seven times, so it's worth watching the whole way through for that alone.

What do you think this girl was like as a kid? I have an idea:

Marlyn comments, asks, "Not even funny. What is funny about any of this?"

I think the point is, what is funny is that CNN felt like they had to run the clip over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over-and-over....

... ad naseaum.

Dumb question to parents: WTF is your 4-year-old doing wandering around in the end zone during the game?

Seriously, WTF.....does this child know NOT TO PLAY IN WALMART'S PARKING LOTS?

So I guess that CNN is trying to dumb down to the FOX News level??

In the clip with the 4-year old, it's worth noting that receiver George Hill deserves some kudos.

He drops the ball to cradle -- and shield --the kid.

The kid's forehead cut appears to have been caused by Hill's helmet on the initial impact, but Hill's quick instincts not only save the kid from getting crushed against the wall, but Hill himself ends up head-butting the wall rather than reaching out and UN-cradling the kid.

Kudos to Mr. Hill.

Lighten up people. Yes, there are some horrible things happening today. Most of the news is depressing these days. Maybe fluff stories like these bring some people a little relief from being totally overwhelmed by the other more tragic news.
I will never understand why all the people that come here continue to bitch and belly ache over every clip that isn't "newsworthy" enough by their standards.
If it looks like a fluff piece skip it and move on if hard news is all you want. If you have lost the warm fuzzy you felt here at HuffPo, again move on. The HuffPo is not the end of the internet.

I agree with you Reason. Great reflexes on Hill's part and if I were that kid's parents, I'd by buying the guy dinner.

Then I would probably never let me kid go to another ball game out of terror of a repeat, but that is just me.

WAKE UP AMERICA! This was an INSIDE JOB. You cannot see the football player hit the cheerleader, so it must not have happened. Obviously, any football player hitting a cheerleader would result in immediate death, broken limbs, or unconsciousness but this did not happen. Notice how the cheerleader has no bruises? This was obviously done by a super secret energy weapon. Notice the unmessed hair... the unripped sweater... this simply does not make sense. It is not logical... it must be a conspiracy!!

The 4 year old was okay, and the cheerleader thought it was funny enough that she talked to the cameras and laughed about it. Go back to bed America.

A "gripping" report? Are you f-ing kidding me?

Sad to see this makes the front page of HuffPo.

Yes, I am "f-ing" kidding you.

The "gripping" report description was sarcastic. What about this video did you think could actually pass as gripping?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:28 PM on 10/30/2007

still... everyone knows the definition of "news" has been forcefully dumbed down on television... even if you're only posting it here to mock CNN, it still plays into the redefinition... which is too bad.

Isn't it ironic how the nuance is lost on so many who so often like to point out how others are too dumb to get the nuance of a particular topic or comment?

Hey Girlyboy...this is one of those moments.

I don't get why this stuff is on Huffpo. On CNN or Fox maybe, but why here? Are we going for the Big Tent?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:19 PM on 10/30/2007

Because the Huffpo is like Keith Olberman's show. Some solid material, some titillating, irrelevant information you most likely couldn't use. I take what I can use. In the case of Olberman, I turn it off long before he gets to "The Worst Person in the World."

While all of you are having a good time watching this, people elsewhere are starving for videos of cheerleaders getting slammed to the ground. Think of all those in Dar-For who don't even know what football is and why it's so funny to watch cheerleaders being injured.

When I was taking graphic arts in school forever ago, the football coach kept coming by and asking me to make these ridiculously elaborate banners. After a few weeks of this, I found out that the banners I made were getting trashed in exactly this manner (with the team running through them). I took exception to this use of my skills, and made the next "banner" out of near-indestructable vellum paper. Apparently, the big, burly quarterback couldn't break through, and the charging horde of fellow players following piled up on him, creating a massive pile of "turtled" varsity players with cheerleaders collapsing on top.

I just wish THAT had been filmed and shown on national television. For me, this is the next-best thing. :)

How about it??? C'mon getoff, what did you THINK the football coach was asking for these banners for anyway? Perhaps if you'd come away from the toxic fumes and spent a Friday night/Saturday afternoon with the rest of your fellow students, you'd know that it's a COMMON PRACTICE for the team to run through said banner.

So were you the guy who wore the pocket protector, the calculator on your belt or all of the above?

I couldn't see the tackle very clearly with this video; therefore, it's not as amusing as it could be. Honestly, I would much prefer to see the Oregon duck beat her up.

Aparently "America's Funniest Home Videos" has taught us all that seeing other people get hurt is "funny".

Where do we go from here? Where are my "hilarious" Abu Ghraib photos?

Wow, the people on these boards are crazy...going from high school cheer-leaders to abu Ghraib in one post. Left-wing nut-jobs.
