The Army began its recruiting year Oct. 1 with fewer signed up for basic training than in any year since it became an all-volunteer service in 1973, a top general said Wednesday.

Gen. William S. Wallace, whose duties as commander of Army Training and Doctrine Command include management of recruiting, told reporters at the Pentagon that the historic dip will make it harder to achieve the full-year recruiting goal -- after just barely reaching it in the year ended Sept. 30.

Achieving the Army's recruiting goals -- a challenge in the best of times -- is not only more difficult now but also of more consequence. That is because the Army has decided that it must grow its active-duty force by several thousand soldiers a year in order to relieve strain on war-weary troops.

Not only is the military infiltrated with evangelical types, but there is also political indoctrination going on in all quarters. Just look at the military absentee ballot count in any given election; 2:1 republican without fail. Why do these men and women vote against their own best interests? Because they are being urged to do so by some incredibly persuasive "operators." In the former Soviet Union, these were known as "political officers." Without a doubt, we will have another generation of returing, disaffected war veterans, indoctrinated with the notion that the Democrats or Liberals have betrayed them. It happened following the Vietnam conflict. Anyone that is intimately familiar with the history, also knows that countless American soldiers and Marines died in vain so that Nixon and Kissinger could achieve their domestic political objectives. Yet, the comrades of the fallen continue, to this day, to falsely blame the Democrats for the outcome of the war. Go figure?

The conflict of morals by the conservative right continues to manifest itself in society. No money for health care, education, social development - put the rascals in prison - then wonder why the there are so few qualified and willing to serve in the Military.

How about a job description that reads, "working in a hot sauna environment and getting shot at". Doesn't sound too appealing.

The Japanese Navy is pulling ships out of the Persian Gulf. Japan's parliament has voted they
will no longer support the war in Afghanistan.
There support was naval.

Bush is not only lying about losing in Iraq
The US is losing in Afghanistan and allies
are bailing out of a war with no objective.

If anyone actually looked into it, and not just reported what the pentagon tells them, they might have noticed that its been a long time since the army, marines, navy or air force has met its quota for new recruits. In fact, they have lowered the numbers, loosened the requirements, and even lied to get recruitments signed up. But how have they covered this problem? By using contract mercenaries like Blackwater. But now that its well known that there are more hired 'contract employees' in Iraq than US military, and now that Blackwater is in a little trouble, they cant really fudge it right now without someone possibly checking into the facts.
Another thing they arent saying is that US military are not re-enlisting when their time is up. No matter what the incentives are.

On Sept. 17, , U.S. Army Spec. Jeremy Hall, an atheist, and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) filed suit against Army Maj. Freddy Welborn and US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, charging violations of Hall's constitutional rights, including being forced to submit to a religious test to qualify as a soldier.

Major Welborn tried to block SPC Hall's reenlistment if he did not convert to Christianity.

The MRFF plans more lawsuits in coming weeks, says Michael "Mikey" Weinstein, who founded the military watchdog group in 2005. The aim is "to show there is a pattern and practice of constitutionally impermissible promotions of religious beliefs within the Department of Defense."

I know someone who was drafted during the Vietnam War and was initially paid $72.00 per month.

Now, because this Administration has always been afraid of suggesting a draft, we pay $20,000. bonuses to volunteer recruits to keep our war machine barely moving.

We've lowered the military standards so many times we take uneducated, stupid, weak, dopers, criminals. And we still need to pay some of them $20,0000.

Let's consider the sick and crazy. They'd help with our enlistment numbers and would probably be thrilled with $20,000. and free medical benefits.

Maybe they should have served them the kool-aid then had them say zieg hile to Bush, did't they tell them how well it's going in Iraq? Maybe the boy scouts can all be sent over as replacements.
