Revenge of the nerds?

Not quite. But geek heaven abounds on CBS' The Big Bang Theory (tonight, 8:30 ET/PT), one of the rare TV sitcoms to employ a physicist.

The science must be working: The freshman series is one of the fall season's few to gain traction, building audience from its How I Met Your Mother lead-in and averaging about 9 million viewers. CBS has already extended the show for a full season.

You know, this might be a pretty good show. I'm glad they do their homework (or at least hire a prof to do it for them), but why is there always a blonde bimbo in these shows? Wouldn't it have been at least a little more creative if it was two nerdy female physics students with a hot bartender stud-muffin moving in to teach them about "life"? Or how about a hot female physics (working her way through college as a waitress maybe) moving in and still teaching these guys about life.

Why can't writers (whose strike I support) ever create intelligent female characters? I'm guessing it's because their juvenile fantasies are/were about blonde bimboes. But how many of them REALLY want to have a relationship with someone who can't keep up with their conversations? And don't think I'm some frumpy feminazi because I think this. I'm hot, I'm blonde, and I am quite intelligent. I just don't waste my time on television that doesn't recognize that in me or my hot, smart sisters. Can a show make it if they are only appealing to juvenile nerds' fantasies? (Or the grad students in physics who want to get the answers to their exams.)

I've read where this show is in jeopardy of being cancelled, which would be a shame. It's really well written and acted and just plain funny. If you haven't seen it, give it a try.
