Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards said he's a better choice than primary rival Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., to battle special interests blocking reform on health care, climate change and other issues.

Edwards said it takes a fighter like himself, rather than a self-described unifier like Obama to break the logjam on Capitol Hill where lobbyists write the laws or block passage of meaningful change.

John Kerry's biggest mistake wasn't responding the the Swiftboat ads quick enough, it was placing Edwards on the ticket.

John Kerry was not going to lose a blue state and had to pick up a red state. He banked on Edwards help, but he did not pick up one. He would have been better off picking Evan Bayh (my pick) who would have helped him pick up some votes in Ohio, which borders Indiana. Before he picked Edwards it was known OHio would be a battleground state. Bayhs conservative credentials would have helped Kerry. I recommend the same pick for who ever wins the nomination on the Dem side.

Edwards is an extremely sad case. He has no real battle plans of his own, so we automatically know he can't be good for America. Once Obama revealed that he would attack Clinton more aggressively, then he's all of a sudden driving the bandwagon. At first, he was a unifier, but now, he wants to fight. Get real Edwards! You are nothing more than a wimp who likes to sport pretty hair!

I'm terribly disappointed in Edwards for making this statement.

Fact is, peace is created through understanding; understanding creates unity. Fighting, on the other hand, no matter how well intended, leads to the insanity we now have. It would appear that a unifier is exactly what we need.

It matters not whether the next pres is Obama, Edwards, or Hillary or whoever America is heading for fascism.

When the dollar collapses and then the economy goes under Americans will want a strong right wing control of the economy.

Fascism is on its way. What we sow we reap now it is harvest time. We are a debtor nation in trade imbalance and huge debts to other countries and Wall Street destroying the long-term viability of many corporations.

From capitalism to unchecked capitalism to wars for profits to savage capitalism to imperialism to the passage of laws that suspend individual rights to a dictator to FASCISM.

Please note we are in the stage of those laws that are starting to suspend individual rights and even supported by the demos.

I have many people state they do not believe in karma, well keep your eyes open with greed is good Wall Street and watch and learn about karma.

HRC will get nominated and she will be the next president: the reason is that the other two guys Obama and edwards are not good enough politicians to beat the clinton machine. They have stopped attacking her and they are kind of faking attacking each other. When the votes are counted she will win; wait and see. She is in troubles now but she will pull ahead and win.

Edwards is ABSOLUTELY correct! Obama will be a nice guy and help the Neos sweep the past 7 years under the rug, yet America needs someone who will crush the Neos! Unfortunately, it ain't Edwards.

It's kind of funny to see Edwards and Obama go after it, because even when they insult each other, they're really complementing each other.

They must have already made a pact to recruit the other as a VP if either got the nomination.

Go John Go! Exactly what we need. A fighter for our values. Someone to call a spade a spade and run the wing-nuts out of town.

Edwards, Edwards, Edwards...please dude!

I am with those who would vote for him if he becomes the nominee, but count me out on the ridiculous notion that we need to buy into an either/or proposition when it comes to leadership styles: unifiers or fighters. This is baloney and he knows it.

This country is desperate not only for change, but also for civility. Whoever said you can't fight for change and do it in a manner consistent with the civililty the electorate is demanding?

When I logged onto the HUFFINGTON today, there was an article about how the Dems now have a govenor in RED state Kentucky, and have made significant gains in the West. THese gains aren't because the Dems who were elected chose to be "just" fighters, or "just" unifiers.

I am a secular progressive, but I know that I will not get ALL of what I want out of a Democratic President. Its just a fact. Yeah, he or she can be a serious fighter for what they believe in, but at the end of the day, it is equally important to be a unifier as well. When you can't get the change you want (from putting up a good fight), you have to be prepared to take the change you can get (from being uniting to bring about pragmatism).

This is why Obama is a great candidate. When you read about his record in Illinois State Senate (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/01/17/politics/main2369157.shtml?source=search_story), you know that Obama is cut out for the hard work.

And look what Obama has done with his power: constantly touch on the political differences and othodoxies that make the two political parties different, and, constantly (and more important) creating visionary and pragmatic legislation and initiatives (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x3132998) that are both consistent with his "PURPLE" vision, and, powerfully instructive to the two party system that is hell-bent on maintaining the culture wars.

Obama '08

Don't be TOO hard on Mr. Obama, after all, he is my 'Vice-President' in Senator Edwards' White House Administration.

;)

John Edwards has my vote!
