Mukasey Filibuster Not Ruled Out

Congressional Quarterly:

Michael Mukasey appears headed for confirmation as attorney general before Thanksgiving, but Senate Democratic leaders are leaving open the possibility that there might be an attempt to filibuster the nomination.

After the Senate Judiciary Committee voted, 11-8, to approve the nomination Tuesday, Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and Majority Whip Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, both of whom oppose the nomination, declined to say whether Mukasey's other Democratic opponents might try to block his confirmation.

It is time to purge Congressional Leadership in Both houses and in Both parties. Vote against incumbents in 2008; press your representative and senators to vote in NEW blood for all leadership positions in the next Congress; email current Congressional leaders to step aside in the next Congress and let new blood assume the reins.

Mukasey nomination may face filibuster?! Fantastic ... the comedy writers must be back on the job. The chances of the democrats following through on a filibuster are slim and NONE. When the vote comes up they will meekly unball their fists and return to gutlessville. They always do.

Torture should not take a holiday. I see many people in line at the DMV who probably should be tortured to save American lives. Do you want them to walk out drive away and kill, because of a pail of water, you liberal cowards.

PS: Chuck Schumer has endorsed this torture scenario.

I wonder, how many of those who will oppose a filibuster are AIPAC recipients?

"They should be forced to listen Keith Olberman's comments on that Attorney who voluntarilly subjected himself to Waterboarding and was rewarded by being FIRED"

That is not torture. They should have to listen
to O'Reilly say we do not torture knowing all the while they voted for torture and that it is going on and O'Reilly is lying.

If there is a real American in the Senate, there will be a filibuster.

"...to the dismay of liberal activists"

That's rich! We're 'dear friends' when James Carville comes knocking at the door asking for money to (I kid you not) "protect our Democratic champions". But we're liberal activists and fringe lunatics when we call our 'Democratic champions' to account.

As mentioned elsewhere (thanks jmpurser!), we don't need a third party, we need a SECOND party!

Not again -- another filibuster scare. Every time there is a bill or a nomination that ispassed onto the floor, we get this same news; "Just you'll wait, we'll stop them with our filibuster."

And than of course, nothing happens. This is what makes me angry, the waisted time and energy that could be spent on something more productive, like passing funding bills or actually finishing some investigations which seems never to end.

If you love Code Pink (and who doesn't) then you'll enjoy this video of them waterboarding one of their members in protest of Feinstein yesterday.

Creepy? Sure. But they're Speaking Truth to Power!

One can only hope. I call my two Senators and my Representative at least once a week urging them to fight back. I call a number of Senators with whom I agree on most things and urge them to fight this criminal and corrupt administration. I write emails and if the I am able partake in joing a mass protest or two, I carried coffins in bot 1000 coffin rallies in NYC. Like a numbers of Senators Arlen Spector talks a good game, but fails to carry through. He was a mAjor influence in getting Judge Thomas onto the Supreme Court. I have been against him not for that alone. But that has been a major reason for me being against him. He will on occasion make a great speech etc, but when it comes time to do more than talk he backs down and votes agains what he just said and votes straight party line. Even as other members of his own party try to disown him. I want our democratically elected Democratic Senators/Representatives to stop acting the victim and start fighting for what is right. we elected them to end this wae, end the illegal and pver-reaching pratices of this criminal and corrupt administration. FIGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY AND FOR OUR PARTY!!!

democratically |-ik(ə)lē| adverb
ORIGIN early 17th cent.: from French démocratique, via medieval Latin from Greek dēmokratikos, from dēmokratia (see democracy ).

Absolutely, FILIBUSTER the bastard. Already he is covering for the bush criminal enterprise. You think it'll be any different when he gets sworn in?

“I don’t believe a leaderless department is in the best interest of the American people or the department itself,” Feinstein said Tuesday. “And I think that’s something really worthy of consideration.”

So let me get this straight, having another AG who turns a blind eye to torture and believes the president is above the law is better than nobody at all?

Hmmm... Why am I having a hard time swallowing that argument?
