Video: Al Gore, David Schwimmer Spoof NBC's Green Week On "30 Rock"

Al Gore On Thirty Rock

As part of their "Green is Universal" campaign, NBC went green last night, with a slate of environmentally themed programming from "Deal or No Deal" to "The Office." Perhaps the most entertaining, and hyped, show-gone-green was "30 Rock," which featured guest appearances from Al Gore, David Schwimmer, and Meredith Vieira. Gore and Schwimmer were part of a segment meant to mock NBC executives for the "Green is Universal" campaign, with Liz Lemon (played by Tina Fey) and Jack Donaghy (played by Alec Baldwin) suggesting that Gore "throw on green tights and a cape and tell the kids how big business is good for the environment." Instead, Gore tells them,

If your network really wants to demonstrate a commitment to the environment, why don't you start by, for example, having an entire week with nothing but environmental themes on all the programs? Use entertainment for substance! You could have a character in primetime making a passionate argument to the American people that we need CO2 taxes to replace the payroll taxes. Your parent company could lobby congress and the president to pass the treaty and save the climate.

Jack's typical studio response? "Or, you could put on a silly hat and tell the kids how outsourcing means cheaper toys at Christmas."

Even the most self absorbed fossil fuel gobblers like Gore need to realize their own insignificance.

To think that what we do can have the kind of catastrophic affect that he claims is preposterous and ego gratifying.

It's very possible he and others doesn't really believe it, but rather wants to promote a political agenda.
Which is, after all, what this is all about.

30 Rock is a great show.

But bringing on Gore for what amounts to a cameo was unnecessary. It only showed that he's either dying his hair gray when he wants to look scholarly or black for the movies.
He's still such a phony.

But, as the man himself said, "A zebra does not change its spots."

Heh heh .... this show is sooo funny, and yet our local network (downunder) cancelled it after 3 episodes cos it wasn't rating well enough?

That's the silver lining to your writers strike ... if no new shows are being made then maybe my local network will have to fill their schedule with unplayed episodes of 30 Rock??

How arrogant of us to believe that we can "save the planet".

George Carlin said it best a few years ago on one of his HBO specials:

Tina Fey, (looking at the burning globe): "OK, this earth is ruined, we gotta get a new one".

Mahahahaha! LOL

Tina (aka Liz Lemon) has this moment when she's looking at the Vice President as if she's gonna jump his bones. Hilarious!
When Mr. Gore "hears a whale in trouble" and proceeds to shuck off his suit jacket a la Clark Kent, the room of folks I was watching the show with burst out in spontaneous guffaws.
Priceless.
Liz, Jack and Al - the new comedy trio?

NBC's "Green is Universal" week is okay, but why do they ask Pat Buchanan if the humans are to blame or not for the climate change? What's next, is Pat going to give us medical advice too?

I don't understand why they didn't go to some climate change conference, film some talks given by our best scientists and invite them in the studio. No matter what the subject is, fucking pat Buchanan has to give his 2 cents. It's ridiculous.

Bush playing hide and seek with WMD's in the oval - pitiful.

I absolutely love Alec Baldwin, Liz Lemon and Al Gore... Eh, David Schwimmer?... meh.

I am impressed with NBC's green programming week efforts. We have to get up off our collective ass about global warming and Al Gore is doing a great job of tugging us along... although, where was he on this during his vice-presidency? Being VP of the US is not "the bulliest" pulpit, but it's a pretty darn bovine pulpit nevertheless!
