Eight Limbs

A two-year-old Indian girl born with eight limbs has astonished doctors with a remarkable recovery following major surgery.

Lakshmi Tatma was born with four legs and four arms - but has had them removed in a gruelling operation.

She was today removed from intensive care following a procedure which removed her headless 'parasitic twin' a week ago, and was reunited with her parents.

Read more about the story here.

Watch video on the surgery below:

I agree with the poster who pled for you to take this off the front page of HuffPO. I think it is disrespectful to the little girl. Imagine growing up and realizing that photographs of you with this deformity had been spread around the world and gawked at by the curious (and by those of us who couldn't turn away in time). You would feel humiliated. Period. Her mother probably has no control over this situation, and is probably in some relationship of abject gratitude toward the hospital and doctors and everyone who has helped her and her daughter. But the media in this country should be more responsible. I also feel it is racist. Editors should ask themselves if they would as freely show the photo of a little white girl naked. I sincerely doubt it. I saw a different version of this in our hometown paper that clearly showed her genitals! Unreal. Memories of old National Geographics came back to me...you know, where the "natives" were shown bare-breasted, etc. in a time when no one would ever have dreamed of allowing white women to be so photographed.

Beautiful child.
Praises for all the doctors and staff who partcipated
without any remuneration. With all the bad news,
something as heart warming as this, is inspiring.
I wish only the best for little Lakshmi. Her parents
were very brave in their choice. Good Luck!
Get well soon and have a good life.

What a strong, beautiful child she is!

Lakshmi now has a real chance at a long, healthy life with her family who so obviously adores her. May they know only happiness together after this ordeal.

Lakshmi, you are courageous.

Namasté - I honor you and recognize the divine in you, and the holiness we share as loving human beings.

They're going to regret that surgery.

That kid could've got a great job in India's data processing industry.

A little bit of joy today. This marvelous story of a life given to this little girl, whose poverty stricken nparent had a hopeless outlook, and the story of the anonymous donor who gave $100,000,000 to the city of Erie, Pennsylvania for it's charities.

There are some things in today's world that do bring gladness to the heart and these two stories today show the best of the human being.

As for the worst of the human being--George
Bush looms mightely over the warlike United States, as we see the pictures of the maimed and the crippled young people that George Bush has crucified. Yet no recriminqtions at all for his war crimes. Just accept it. It is become who we are as a nation.

MOTHERS do not teach your children to grow up to be soldiers. From here on in and even before, all this nation does is lie to them, take their lives away on lies and it is not because they are heroes for defending our "freedoms". Teach them, mothers, that it is all lie to get what other countries, who cannot even get within striking distance of the United State, who don't have any military to speak of, that we attack--and for this, our young are maimed, they die and all the innocents of the country Bush attacks, suffer and suffer. Murderer!

It won't take long for some religious nut in India to claim that she's the incarnation of Vishnu...
