Two days after Donda West's untimely death following cosmetic surgery, the doctor who performed the procedures stepped forward late Monday night to proclaim his innocence to website TMZ. Dr. Jan Adams, who claims to have performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on singer Kanye West's 58-year-old mom said he did not cause her death. Rather, Dr. Adams hypothesized Donda may have died from a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting.

Monday a coroner's official said Donda may have died from surgical complications and an autopsy is set to begin.

Donda was reportedly at home Saturday evening when she stopped breathing and someone phoned 911. She was pronounced dead about hour later at the Centinela Freeman Hospital in Marina del Rey.

Hours before Dr. Adams came forward, Kanye West released a statement. It thanked fans for their outpouring of support and asked for donations in Donda's name to Kanye's charity, which she cofounded and which focuses on reducing the high school dropout rate.

Update:
TMZ reports that the medical board wanted to suspend Dr. Adams' license this past April following multiple DUI convictions.

Update II

According to TMZ, Donda West was on the operating table for eight hours last Friday, twice as long as planned. She then went home, instead of staying in a medical facility, and died the next night. Dr. Adams is not Board Certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Update III
Dr. Adams appeared on Oprah. Watch it.

Update IV
Dr. Jan Adams lost two malpractice suits in 2001, according to Entertainment Tonight. He was ordered to pay judgments of $250,000 and $217,337.

Update V

Dr. Jan Adams was sued again in June 2007 for malpractice, according to TMZ

Update VI
In December 2005 a lawsuit against Dr. Jan Adams alleged poor post operative care, false credentials and a botched tummy tuck, according to TMZ.

Update VII

Yet another lawsuit claims a botched boob job in August of 2005.

Update VIII
A sixth lawsuit has been uncovered by TMZ. The plaintiff alleges that after a botched tummy tuck and arm lift, Dr. Jan Adams paid house calls. While she was medicated from the surgery and intoxicated, he told her he loved her, had sex with her and got her pregnant. That suit settled out of court.

Update IX

In another lawsuit, in October of this year, a patient who got breast implants claims Dr. Adams and Euclid Outpatient Surgery Center were responsible for "mental, physical and nervous pain and suffering" according to TMZ.

Update X

Another lawsuit has emerged. Dr. Adams had to pay $100,000 to a woman over a botched breast augmentation, during which he left a sponge inside, reports TMZ.

Hi Folks--

I have the benefit of knowing Dr. Jan Adams from a perspective that I would guess no one who has posted here has.

We were roommates in college.

During our four years as undergrqaduates and for at least a year afterwards, I got to know him very well. I am willing to maintain an open mind about all the accusations, past and presents, that have been leveled against him. But more than a few of them are not consistent with the Jan Adams that his roommates and friends have known.

I would simply ask you all to refrain from a collective rush to judgement in the court of public opinion before all of the facts of this tragedy are brought to light.

My intuition tells me that the doctor used his charm, possibly seduced Ms. West into using him for the risky surgical procedures. That is the only way a woman of her brilliance and achievements could have been misled by this "doctor". I have seen too many times how otherwise reasonable women are fooled by men who claim to love them.

My sincere condolences to her son Kanye and the friends and family she left behind.

True story.

My wife was injured in a botched medical accident. The surgery was never performed, she was in ICU for 2 weeks and the hospital for 6 weeks and is now permanently disabled for life. The doctor, we found, had a record of malpractice to the point that he no longer had any assets, having transferred everything to his wife.

With what seemed an open and shut case, the jury still found him innocent on the grounds that he meant no intentional harm to her, and such accidents are a risk of surgery. Mr. West will have the same burden of proof, and in the court room, doctors always have the respect of the jury.

Even so, there is no reciprocity between states for decertified doctors, so they can always move elsewhere and find another job, their demand is that high, and their egos are unstoppable. Rarely do these people leave their lucrative professions, it is so lucrative.

Morale of the story, research very carefully your doctor and know the risks of surgery before you jump. Serious injury or death does not guarantee a winning lawsuit, in fact, the odds favor the doctors. Free advice I have learned the hard way.

Plastic surgery needs to be regulated more. There are lots of people doing "plastic surgery" but they are not real plastic surgeons, they just go to a weekend workshop somewhere in a hotel and then their ego leads them to believe they can perform plastic surgery. Just because there were eight malpractice suits doesn't mean that there weren't a lot more than eight women who were deformed by this doctor. Many women don't take their plastic surgery accidents to court because of the embarrassment.

This was otherwise a very bright and accomplished woman. How could she have not checked his credentials? She could afford to go to the best surgeon money could buy. Why him? I'm shocked by this.

How can you link to the website TMZ when they are running these updates printing the names of the patients who have sued him and the ex-girlfriend who has restraining order against him?
I am shocked that they are printing the full names of the victims. I find that disgusting - and dangerous!

As usual when something goes horribly wrong, people fall over each other to find someone to blame. Someone died, and someone must pay. The doctor is to blame. Sure, he seems to be. To me, the Mom is to blame too. Surgery is dangerous; it's not a cure for vanity.

I just heard that a big name plastic surgeon turned her down for the procedure because of fears of heart attack, so she went to somebody who would do it. Thats really sad that she didn't listen to professional advice.

Tragic. She was already attractive. Vanity and incompetence don't ever go well together.

I'm just wondering why she didn't do some research on this guy.
It's not like she was looking for a bargain deal.
This doctor should have spent a little more time practicing medicine and a little less time in front of the camera.

As an earlier post mentioned....
Why is this top story news?
My condolences to Mr. West,
but a little girl 2-5 yrs old was found dead and floating in plastic box here in galveston, texas 2 weeks ago. That is a tragedy.
No Name, just discarded like a piece of trash. Her story made news for about 1 week.
I am sure we will hear all about the Kanye West lawsuit, the doctor, etc., for years.

Again, I'm sorry he lost his mother.
The world keeps a goin'
