Federal safety regulators have given the go-ahead to resume operations at the Tower mine, where 170 miners have been idled since shortly after the disaster at Crandall Canyon because of concerns about mining coal so deep underground.

"If they get everything in place, they could start up today," said Kevin Stricklin, administrator of coal-mine safety for the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

Corporate America has always tended to consider short-term profits to be far more important than human lives.

Nationalize Oil.
Nationalize Gas.

"Just step over the corpses, men. Of course it's safe. After all, what are the odds of it happening again?"

This is why we will blow right past any "tipping point" in climate change: we're never gonna stop burning coal and it's too late to sequester it now. I just hope we don't get to the day when you suddenly can't breathe because of the methane, oh, for about 30-40 years.

Who do we blame for the next fatalities? The miners who go down, or the ones that sent them there? Or is this considered equal opportunity foolishness?

Wait.

Didn't they say that they would NEVER open that mine again? That the mine would be their silent tomb.

Do the elevator motors count?

Ugh.

I heard this bastard was going to testify to a grand jury. No conscience, and he has the balls to say he cares about his workers and their safety. He cares about $$ and nothing else.
I hope he goes to jail and bankrupt with lawsuits.

Thease heartless bastards will always find miners who will go down the shafts just so they can feed their families. Everytime they go down....they know it may be the last time they see the world. Mines can be made safer...this administration chose to make them more dangerous by letting the owners do as they [please]. Some have no conscience and are greedy....somehow they happen to have the unsafe mines too.
