Internet users in France who download music and films without paying for them could find their web access shut down by a government body, under a ground-breaking industry agreement backed by President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The plan, which Mr Sarkozy is to endorse in a speech on Friday, will put France at the forefront of the battle against internet piracy with a three-strikes-and-you-are-out policy against repeat offenders.

fourex "The internet with free movement and exchange of ideas frightens fascists"

You Are an Idiot! Define fascism before you claim it exists. What has France's new president done so far that is fascist? He cracked the pethetic transportation union, and now he is punishing illegal activity... what a bad guy.

I can see Bush going along with it just to have another excuse to spy on everything everyone is doing

The DESERTEC Concept

Satellite-based studies by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) have shown that, using less than 0.3% of the entire desert areas of the MENA region, solar thermal power plants can generate enough electricity and desalinated seawater to supply current demands in EU-MENA, and anticipated increases in those demands in the future.

Harnessing the winds in Morocco and on land around the Red Sea would generate additional supplies of electricity. Solar and wind power can be distributed in MENA and transmitted via High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission lines to Europe with transmission losses that would be no more than 10-15%. The Club of Rome and TREC are both pursuing this DESERTEC Concept: bringing technology and deserts into service for energy, water and climate security. Countries like Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia have already shown an interest in this kind of cooperation.

Did the French really vote this guy into power? What were they thinking? I guess they're not a whole lot more sophisticated from us afterall. Are his popularity ratings there as high as Bush's are here? How long will they be suffering with him? Inquiring minds want to know.

How come it's MORE illegal and immoral to download all the while that SCAMMERS & SPAMMERS
keep getting away with murder?

I have NO time for anyone who wants to convict downloaders until they give us the power to give back to the SCAMMERS & SPAMMERS and HACKERS or find them end prevent them from doing more damage.

Once the French people recognize that Sarkozy is nothing but a CIA proxy they will kick him to the curb.

The hint for the French people is when Sarkozy starts attacking the social safety net of France ... starts pushing privatization ... that's the signal they have a CIA Mole as their leader.

The French had better be ready to act ... unless they desire to join the United States as a second tier nation.

Now the French have to put up with a freedom hating fascist. Lets see how Gallic Democracy
works to get rid of Sarkosy.

Good news, the Aussie threw out that fascist

Recently a friend of mine (Belgian) went to Dallas for pilot training. I am in Holland. We chatted together on MSN messenger. He was in a hotel that had very fast broadband for his laptop.

He asked me if I had MS OFFICE handy and I said I did..........I zipped it up and sent it to him (500 MB) as a file attachment while we were chatting. Took about 2 hours. He went out for a burger and came back and it was finished. Unzipped, installed, and he said it worked great.

There are millions of ways to file transfer.

Please, the real news is Sarkozy crushed the socialist scum, and defeated the rail strike. Prior Presidents failed to accomplish this, and now the freedom movement will move on to Germany.
The MSM has totally ignored this important story.

Wow, sounds like it would work. Although bootleggers would just find other ways to do it.
And it sure wouldnt work in the US. I mean, when you have the largest software , computer and Internet companies with thousands of employees using company machines and connections to download distribute and sell tons of illegal movies, music and software, well, you cant just cut off companies like Microsoft or Savvis now can you.
