MSN Money:

US online retail sales have been growing at better-than-expected rates in the run-up to the holidays, according to Wall Street analysts and internet retailers.

The news mirrors the robust start to the holiday shopping season reported by traditional retailers.

Raul Vazquez, chief executive of Walmart.com, said the retailer had seen sales on the Friday after Thanksgiving holiday "exceed our expectations" of 40-60 per cent annual growth.

I remember right after 9/11 when either Bush or Rudy made a speech in which they asked American's to "carry on" with their lives and go and "spend money" and "continue shopping."

To roughly quote Fight Club, we spend all our lives buying useless things we don't need.

Consumerism and corporatism go hand-in-hand. Perhaps companies wouldn't be so powerful if people didn't keep purchasing useless junk.

Watch out!! All this money being spent on holiday shopping, Black Friday, Cyber Monday or what ever they want to call it is nothing but fools gold!!

Most of these people are fiscally straining themselves not only because they are hooked on cheapies but hooked on shopping. That’s the good news; the reality is they are blowing all this money simply because they are on their final phase of loosing their homes to foreclosures and have long decided that spending an extra couple hundred dollars or so will not save their homes.

Remember, there is always a grace period of about 4-6 months after the initial default filing to either catch up on the payments or move out of the house. It is the money saved during these 4-6 months of free rent that people are treating themselves with!! Like I said, fools gold!

But I thought the "progressives" had called for a moratorium on spending in order to sink the US economy. Maybe they are just waiting for their welfare checks to arrive.
