Lott To Leave Quickly To Beat Lobbying Ban

Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) plans to resign his seat by year's end, a senior Republican official told Politico.

The announcement took Capitol Hill by surprise because Lott, the former majority leader, seemed to be relishing his job as minority whip, the second-ranking GOP leadership job. He had regained a post in leadership after he resigned following racially insensitive remarks at a birthday party for the late Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.).

GOP Senator Arlen Specter said that financial problems hastened Lott's retirement. By retiring before the end of this year, Lott will only have to wait one year before being eligible to lobby.

Maybe Lott wants to get out before his name gets drug any further into the mess that his brother in law Dickie, and Dickie's personal AG cooked up in MS after Katrina...maybe there's a reason the US Attorney in Alabama shied away initially from prosecuting Dickie...a call from DC?

Sen. Lott is SUCH an honorable man, he understands why the new lobbying rules are going into effect January first. So, SURELY he will promise the American people (and his fellow Mississippians), who he holds in such high regard, that he is not quitting in order to circumvent those rules.
Afterall, circumventing the rules would be legal, it would just be ethically lower than whale poop, wouldn't it? And whoever contended that Lott wasn't a champion of ethics?!

Trent Lott had his home repaired. Thousands of Mississippi and Louisiana Residents were rooked by the Neo Con owned Insurance Companies who refused to honor their customers policies and in return for a few thousand dollars in bribes.. Had it legalized by the Corrupt Republican and Democratic Legislators and the Conflict of Interest and Collusion challenged Neo Con U.S. Supreme Court Justices.
The billions of dollars in aid for the poverty stricken Mississipians sent to Mississippi was diverted to the Neo Con owned Conglomerates by Gov. Haley Barbour. How's that for outrage.

Did Lott get his beachfront home repaired after the hurricane ? Remember when Bush said he can't wait to sit on the rebuilt porch with Lott ? Who paid for that ?
