A column by regular Joe Klein in last week's issue of TIME magazine, on the Democrats' version of a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) bill, has earned a correction today in both that magazine -- and the Chicago Tribune, where it also ran.

The column drew immediate criticism from Salon.com blogger Glenn Greenwald, and then others, several days ago. Klein, under persistent pressure since, backtracked to some extent in recent days, offering repeated updated clarifications, which critics also deemed inadequate. Finally he wrote, "I have neither the time nor legal background to figure out who's right."

So, Mr. Klein doesn't understand the subject matter that he is writing about, but will go ahead and condemn Democrats just to be on the "right" side of any argument. It figures. Sounds like a lot of the other news these days.
And he doesn't even have the decency to make an apology or an honest correction? Why does anyone pay this man to be a reporter? He should be a Republican politician instead. We have a whole lot of them talking about things they don't understand.

I suggest to you, readers, that you do as we have done, unsuscribe to TIME magazine. Any periodical that would give space to reporters who mis-write or do not clarify source materials and make certain the facts are clear and accurate, or, who allow Mr. Crystal space to write right wing dogma does not deserve a paying constituency. Time magazie, you are losing your readership and it is well deserved!

And while they are at it, why not just run him out of town....
No loss, and probably means one more taxi freed up for night time use.

This was a strange and amusing argument between Klein and Greenwald.

The only obvious truth in the story is that the Democrats wrote a confusing FISA bill and no one can agree on what it says.

You know the knuckle draggers still jump all over Dan Rather for having docs with the wrong font.:( Yet where are they when Joke Line (thanks DOD) spouts out and out lies, or when No-crack commits treason, or when faux news wins a lawsuit for dishonest reporting, claiming that they are only entertainment???

"If they find the stuff I write isn't true, then they can kick the sh!t out of me...I don't care."
-Joke Line, interview w/ AMC.

"People like me who favor this [NSA wiretapping] program don"t yet know enough about it yet. Those opposed to it know even less " and certainly less than I do."
-Joke Line

"To my mind, being a "serious person" means the following: you study the facts on the ground, you study the history, you take into account opinions on all sides--not just your side--and then you come to a conclusion"
-Joke Line

"I have neither the time nor legal background to figure out who"s rightŠ"
-Joke Line, responding to critics of his FISA piece.

"That assumes that there are errors,"
-Priscilla Painton, editor of Joke Line's FISA piece, respoding to questioning from Jane Hamsher.

"Greenwald's larger criticism of the arrogance of the mainstream media, especially those who opine without reporting, has value...but too often he finds great significance in the insignificant, mistaking a twig for a forest."
-Joke Line responding to criticism from Greenwald.

Finally he [Klein] wrote, "I have neither the time nor legal background to figure out who's right."

Then don't write about it, you twit!

Klein was bamboozled by the Rs and his posting that they link to from his print correction repeats that bamboozlement. He totally missed that the BushCo bill that was rammed through this summer also used the term "person" to mean multiple people/groups/etc. So, both Dems and Republicans are soft on terror?

donw - me too

gappytoofcondi - for sure, it was grudging at best. But the whole episode is perfect as the issue at hand is debatably minor, while the value in showing how all the aparachiks work invaluable.

deweyn - me too.

This jerk-off wants to become the new William Safire. He's certainly qualified in a douchebag sort of way.

I am very thankful that websites like this shed light on this crap. Before the web I'm not sure this would have been challenged.

A little late, especially after five attempts by Klein to massage his BS. He admitted on the fifth try that he did not what the F he was talking about.

I now will lump Joe Klein in with Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, Kristol, Podhoretz, et al when mentioning the Likud/AIPAC/JINA/PNAC/Neocon cabal. He is now officially a member.
