Daily Mail :

In a controversial new book, this defiantly single mother gives a step-by-step guide to having a baby without a man. But even she admits there's a bitter price to pay.

When Louise Sloan's son Scott was born in June last year he was obviously going to grow up to be the spitting image of his father - a tall, green-eyed, handsome, intelligent actor with a wry sense of humour and a love of music.

i was disappointed but not surprised at the "pursed lip" and defensive tone of the article. it is hilarious to me that men who have been not only ok with, but actively engaged in making women feel worthless for thousands of years, and who have steadfastly refused to help out around the house, are all of a sudden wounded about not being more central to the process of a lesbian raising a child.

hey guys? last time i checked, the sperm donors knew what they were doing. it's not like they thought they were getting married and raising a family with the recipients, but were cruelly tricked - they were getting it on with a test tube and getting paid.

why can't people just let other people live their lives? lord knows if the parenting police had overseen 100% of any of our lives, we would ALL be in jail. these women seem very happy and that's better than about 50% of married moms. leave them alone.

What I want to know is why anyone would want to be a single parent?
Two of my best friends have been single parents and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Unless you are rich or have a massive and cooperative support network it'll drive you crazy, and drain you dry, and virtually every bad outcome you can think of for a kid is an order of magnitude worse for single parents than with two parent families.

I'd rather have my right hand cut off than be a single parent. The whole world is against you!

What crappy writing:

>he was obviously going to grow up to be the spitting image of his father - a tall, green-eyed, handsome, intelligent actor with a wry sense of humour and a love of music.

The kid is a year old! He may be homely, of only average intelligence, prefer TV to music, and end up a 2nd rate writer for the Daily Mail.

Even his green eyes may change colors by then.
