NBC Picketer: Strike-Breaker Daly "Almost Ran Me Over"

As if this week's controversy over non-WGA member Carson Daly crossing the picket line and going back to work wasn't enough, here's more. Adam Waring, a WGA West member and sitcom scribe who wrote for Two And A Half Men and Still Standing, tells me he had a too-close encounter of the picketer-vehicle kind with the SUV ferrying Daly to NBC's Last Call on Thursday. (And now that he's gone public about it to me in an email with the subject line, "Carson Daly Almost Ran Me Over at NBC," Waring quipped when I called to authenticate it, "Well, I'll never get a job on that show.") The incident at Bob Hope Gate was also witnessed by writer Ron Osborn whose emailed recounting backs up Waring's:

I'm told that Waring, Osborn and writer Shari Goodhartz were picketing at NBC on Thursday when the WGA organizers instructed them to be on the lookout for a black Cadillac Escalade with a bike rack. because it is Carson Daly's car. The late night host was returning to work for the first time since the strike started, and the WGA "was determined to try and stop him," Waring explained. "At about 2:30 PM, they got word that his car had driven past one of the gates but had not turned in. Then they realized that there was no one picketing at Gate #3." That gate on Alamada requires a swipe card and is used mostly by executives. "They sent three of us from Gate 1 up there at a sprint, and, within 5 minutes of getting there, we saw his car," Waring recounted.

All these writers, producers, film and tv people make way too much money anyway. The people who actually do hard work should get paid more then these people.

"I stood in the middle of a driveway while a vehicle was approaching and almost got run over!"

Yeah .... shocking.

Guess what? If you step in front of a moving car, there's a more than distinct possibility you'll risk injury.

Carson Daly, inept though he may be, is not a scab. HE IS NOT IN THE WGA! Does anyone other than the megalomaniacal Writer's Guild expect him to lose his livelihood for a union he doesn't even belong to? Show runners are already back to work behind the scenes (so their fat producer checks keep coming in) and actors have historically crossed every guild picket line except the DGA's, since that one determines who gets hired or not.

Quit yer whining, get back to the bargaining table and stop trying to win the hearts and minds of a gen pop who couldn't care less.

I've never had more respect for Carson Daly than I do now.

These whiny union writers think that they are too low on the totem pole, but there are a lot of people lower than them who are going without pay because of their dumb strike.

Shit, if you think that you deserve more money, then talk to the management and convince them that you are worth it. You union thugs don't impress me by wrecking the whole operation for a few months because of your petty little demands.

Carson Daly, as member of the republican Party Of America needs to say that things are not so. They are not what the republican party thought.

This is anecdotal! I can say that Gwyneth Paltrow flirted with me once (which she did) but how do you prove it? Carlson is boring as boring can be, but this bit could be all made up.

Now, where do I get in line to keep on NOT watching his show?

Daly is a no-talent pussy. He'll be blacklisted and out of work in no time. Noone, not even the studios, respect a scab.

I never watch this guy but I was channel surfing the other night and decided to give him a try. I heard five minutes of his opening monologue and turned off in utter disgust when he made some sleazy joke about Angelina Jolie sleeping with her brother.
Man, I long for the days when talk show hosts had some class such as Paar and Carson.

Why does he still have a show on NBC? Does NBC pay him? Or does he pay them to put him on?

for those smart enough to turn off the tv after conan: carson daly is a total douchebag with the air of someone who believes he's actually cool -- confidence with no substance. not surprised he has no qualms about crossing picket lines.

Carson Daly still has a show on TV?
Why?
Even Jon Stewart's Daily Show writers couldn't make that no talent ass clown watchable.
