"Mormon Church, Boy Scouts sex abuse lawsuit grows

PORTLAND, Oregon (Reuters) - A lawsuit filed against the Mormon Church and the Boy Scouts of America expanded on Wednesday to include four more men charging the organizations with ignoring sex abuses committed decades ago by a man who served as a church teacher and a scout leader.
The six men, who filed a new lawsuit in Oregon state Circuit Court in Multnomah County, allege that Timur Dykes, a former spiritual leader in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and former scout leader, repeatedly abused them when they were boys.
Dykes, a convicted sex offender, is listed on Multnomah County's registered sex offender Web page. He is not named as a defendant in this suit.
"Both the Mormon Church and Boy Scouts were well aware by at least the 1960s that they had a serious, institution-wide infestation of child abuse, stretching across the country," said the plaintiffs' attorney Kelly Clark. "They did not clear it up."
The original two plaintiffs, two brothers in their early 30s, dropped the original lawsuit and refiled the case to add four more plaintiffs. The men filed the lawsuit under the names "Jack Doe."
The lawsuit asks for $25 million in damages.
Dykes was allowed to continue in positions of trust and continue to abuse boys for four or five years after he was first arrested or investigated as early as 1981, said Clark.
"We work very, very hard to protect children in the Boy Scouts," said Gregg Shields, national spokesman for the Boy Scouts of America, who declined to comment on the suit.
Portland attorney Stephen English, representing the Mormon Church, said the church is thoroughly investigating what happened. He also said Dykes was never a member of the Mormon clergy and has been excommunicated."

my, my, my look at the RACIST f*ckin Boy Scout lawsuit I found!
"In 1974 the Mormon doctrine of discrimination against blacks brought the Boy Scouts into a serious confrontation with the NAACP. The Boy Scouts of America did not discriminate because of religion or race, but Mormon-sponsored troops did have a policy of discrimination. On July 18, 1974, the Salt Lake Tribune reported: "A 12-year-old boy scout has been denied a senior patrol leadership in his troop because he is black", Don L. Cope, black ombudsman for the state, said Wednesday.
Mormon 'troop policy is that in order for a scout to become a patrol leader, he must be a deacon's quorum president in the LDS Church. Since the boy cannot hold the priesthood, he cannot become a patrol leader.' "
Shortly before Boy Scout officials were to appear in Federal Court Friday morning on charges of discrimination, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a policy change which will allow black youths to be senior patrol leaders, a position formerly reserved for white LDS youths in troops sponsored by the church. An LDS Church spokesman said Friday under the "guidelines set forth in the statement, a young man other than president of the deacons quorum could (now) become the senior patrol leader if he is better qualified". - (Salt Lake Tribune, August 3, 1974).
Mormon President Spencer W. Kimball "had been subpoenaed to testify" in the suit (Ibid., Oct. 23), but on Nov. 7, 1974 the Tribune reported: "A suit claiming discrimination against blacks by the Boy Scouts of America was dismissed Wednesday in federal court...all parties to the suit..signed an agreement stating the alleged discrimination 'has been discontinued.'"

now when did the LDS church have their miraculous change on Black Skin being the Mark of Cain, and membership...yeah the 1970s....what a coincidence?
Look.
Even though I disparage the Mormon cult, the basic content of the cult's BOM is not what I object to. Rather it is the plan the cult has to convert the world, through its missionary work and through its lobbying. They sound pretty innocent, but watch the details, and you see a step-by-step plan for diminishing the US Constitution (establishment clause, free speech, various laws, etc...).
I would have no problem with a Mormon legislator, president or even judge.
I am however extremely annoyed with Mormons who think that everyone else is a gentile in need of converting.
Thus, show me the money. Follow the money.
Ugh.

My fellow pigeo...Murkins, I have lots of

Religion does matter and mine is as good the Huckersterbee's
No, it won't make a difference. Because he's a filthy rich racist fool. And if people are stupid enough to listen to him AND vote then they need serious help.
Isn't it ironic that the holy rollers on the right protest Mitt's religion, making fun of the origins of it and questioning his beliefs??? I mean, c'mon guys, coming back from the dead, walking on water, dinasaurs and humans living on earth 7000 years ago when the earth was created by a big daddy in the sky?? The only people who really care about this issue are the lunatics who have no tolerance for others.
Someone needs to ask Mitt about Mormon housing and hiring discrimnation against non-Mormons in Utah and Idaho. If he denies it, then he's a bold-faced liar.
well, I think JFK was sincere....
This PBS program explained the Mormon's much better than Mitt will ever be able to do.
It's a long program, but well worth watching.

If he flashes his underwear can the audience toss beads at him?
His faith is a tough sell. Originating in conspiracy theories and troubling times, the Mormons have used fear of faith to promote exclusiveness in religion. They discount the King James Bible as flawed - and assault Catholicism as the church of the devil. Where can this lead?
Ohg.
